I don't tow at all, and yes Jay those OEM GY's are not good on wet pavement, I've been planning to replace them eventually, so it looks like a good time now lol. Corneileous thanks for the info, I would like a larger more aggressive looking tire, I don't mind spending a bit more to get what I will be happy with(hopefully longer than 12,000 miles!)If you don't recommend BFG KO'S what are some you do recommend?

There’s a lot of people that like those Nitto Terra Grapplers. As far as what I would recommend for an all terrain, the Cooper Discoverer AT/3’s are good. My current set is the Michelin Defender LTX in the stock size and they are wonderful. Not much for off-road, and they don’t look very aggressive but they sure are a nice replacement to those Goodyear’s.

Another thing to ponder: I’m not sure how much bigger than stock you’d have to not go, but most tires 35 inches and larger are 10 ply.

^^^^ +1. Sidewall damage ain't nothing to mess with. That is now a weak spot, period, nothing else you can say about that, it ain't gonna get any better. I blew a sidewall out of a continental on my f150 at 50 mph. Tires had less than 5k on them and no apparent damage, never been curbed, I was the only one that ever drove the truck.

The nick in the outer layer of rubber is cosmetic only. The evidence on the sidewall of the tire shows clearly that it was a scraping action on the sidewall. There is no evidence or reason to suspect that there was any contact that was in the direction of penetration of the tire. I wouldn't be the least bit concerned about starting a long trip on that tire, assuming there is no other damage.

That's fine, everyone has an opinion, that's cool. I'm just speaking from my experience and what I'd do, of course it's easy to make recommendations when you're spending their money. I just wish I'd known that I could have drove my new truck to a Goodyear dealer and got full credit towards a better set of tires. I've got 15k on my SRA's now and they've been "ok", that's all I'll say about them, Cooper's will be the replacements when the time comes.

I grew up around the tire business. My Dad was a wholesale distributor back in the days when there was a road hazard guarantee. Pro-rated adjustments were made for all kinds damage to tires and I have seen thousands of such tires. Sure, everyone has an opinion, but few are qualified. If you have something in your mind that makes you uncomfortable about a tire, you owe it to yourself to get rid of it. Life is short and driving is supposed to be pleasant.

I just don't like the OEM tires to begin with, so it just helps me get what I want sooner, so far Cooper AT3 XLT's are what I'm leaning toward, I don't really need a 10 ply tire, but these get great reviews and come in the size I want, I've been scouring the interwebs and reviews, so we will see.

Look into the Nitto Terra Grappler G2 tire. They are awesome [emoji41]

Ok, went with Cooper Discoverer AT/3 XLT's, so far I really like them, about an inch or more height, wider with real tread. Handles really nice, no noise to speak of, Hopefully this will keep me from buying a new RAM, this feels like a new truck.ktapruG.jpg

Looks awesome!
Side note, it rained for the first time since I got new tires. What a difference in handling! You’ll be glad those Goodyear’s are gone.

The set of Cooper Discoverer AT/3’s I had on the old halfton weren’t too bad when they were new but once they got down to around half treadlife, they didn’t seem to be as good anymore at that point. Really wasn’t impressed with them anymore after that. I figured if I ever got another set of Coopers again in the future that it’d probly be those Cooper Discoverer Zeons, or whatever they are- the ones that had a close resemblance in tread pattern as the Nitto Terra Grapplers.
