finally did my first oil change (w/ AMSOIL :********:), and was going to throw out a question to the group to see if it'll help make future oil changes easier. i had a hard time positioning myself under my truck in order to get the oil filter, and getting any leverage to tighten it. how do the rest of you guys do it? any tricks you guys use? also, i'm planning on lowering my truck (2-4 inch drop)... with that, I probably won't be able to fit under my truck to do the oil change, any suggestions on how to SAFELY lift my truck at home to do my oil changes??

Jack, and jack stands.

I use in oil filter wrench to get mine on and off. Of course I have plenty of room under mine

When I had my last truck, I would just use a set of ramps. It gave me enough room to get under there and do what I needed to, plus it was less of a hassle than using a jack and stands

Floor jack and jack stands if your on level concrete, the drive on stand ramps are also really nice to use. If you use the ramps lock the parking brake and I also chaulk the wheel just because im paranoid.

HA! yeah not sure how much synthetic oil changes are by having someone do it for me... thought it would be more cost efficient to do it myself. do you guys have preferences on the ramps as far as brands are concerned?

I think mine are Rhino brand. Got them from O'Reillys when I worked there. They're the 12,000 pound XL series if IIRC

I drive up some bricks, helps it drain better too. It brings it up another foot.

I got the Heavy Duty ones from Autozone. They have like a 10K GVW rating or somthing redic. They are fiberglass impregnated plastic. They'll hold my truck till the end of days. They work great, and I've never had a problem with em.

lol... mine's not a 4x4 though, so i'll probably feel silly with a lift kit on it, plus it won't fit in my garage, ha!

I paid 40.00 and got 3 oil changes free :). Lasts 2 years.

Mines free everytime. Its what the dealer does. Buy a vehicle from them then you get free oil changes for life.

^I wouldnt trust most dealers to do something as simple as an oil change sometimes.

That's pretty sweet. I'm going to take advantage of the $40 for 4 oil changes that Dodge is running right now.

As far as I've seen there isn't a dealer in my region that does free oil changes if you buy a vehicle from them. Some do the first for free, but even those are rare.

Hey now, I change oil for a Ford dealership here and have never left a drain plug out, forgot to add oil, or left a wheel loose!

Great I probably just jinxed myself lol

Have to do synthetic IMO. I have free ones at the dealer but don't use them.
