Just had at dealer. 2013 ram with 5.7 hemi with 142000 miles. Dealership just did a complete replacement of cam and all lifters. My question is cold start oil pressure 51psi. idle 27psi and cruise 55 to 70 41psi. Oil temperature around 212 and was as high as 221.Are these low numbers and do i need to take it back in to the dealership for them to look at. They said insurance wouldn't cover oil pump change at time of cam, lifter replacement. Cam was wiped out and 16 lifters replaced.

internal oil pump could have issues from particles floating around through oil system from said failures

I'm no expert by any means. Just speaking from experience. My pressure is normally around 50 psi on cold start. Normally 35-40 at idle. Normally around 45 psi while driving. If I'm reading your numbers correctly, those idle numbers seem a bit low. Temp seems about right. I run 5w-20 full synthetic and live in south Texas.

When I do cams/lifter job I always replace the oil pump, timing chains/guides because it has to come off any ways to 100% set the timing right. Also i would run 5w30 nothing thinner.

Dealership changes oil, semi synthetic 5w-20 and was told by dealership it was not necessary to change pump. Just got it back yesterday, so first day driving it. Seems like oil pressures are 5 to 7 psi lower than before. Oil Temperature I have never paid attention to. I can take it in and have them replace oil pump and do oil change with filter after first of year. Didn't know any psi numbers but I see that if you go to 10w-30 pressures go up? The day I picked it up the starter went bad so had to have that changed, unemployed right now so got to spread out my repairs.

I think all your pressures and temps are fine, myself the idle pressure might be a tad low but with the mileage you have that might be totally normal.
I would step it up to a 5w30 and see if that helps since its got some miles on it.

Ok. My 11 runs 58 at cold start, 52 53 at speed, 38 at idle. Idle speed is 550 rpms. SRT filter

My 14 (E force supercharged) runs 60 cold start, 53 to 57 at speed and 41 at idle. Idle speed is 650 rpms. RP 10 48 filter

My 16 is 59 at cold start, 53 at speed and 42 at idle. Idle speed is 600 rpms. RP 20 820.

All run redline 5w30.

Your readings are normal in my opinion.

What is your idle speed, it makes a difference as does oil weight. Oil filter does not seem to affect much. Cold start could be debateable

So I see 5w-30 is the recommendation. I have a life time warranty on powertrain so I will get with dealer and see if they will run that. Full synthetic or mix and should it be something like high milage semi synthetic like Valvoline.

My 11 has in excess of 150k, I run full synthetic redline. 8k OCI. No oil usage and have never put a drop of anything sold as high mileage oil in anything I've owned.

I’m in complete agreement with 69GWC, as a matter of fact regardless of the new cam and lifter’s and not springing for a new oil pump with that kind of mileage I would definitely up the viscosity and change it over to full synthetic high mileage base. The only reason they want us to run a lighter viscosity is for gas mileage, I run 5w30 in my 2012 5.7. If you run a compression test you might find the cause of the “slightly” insignificantly lower pressures. Remember the Viscosity is how thick flow rate a specific temperatures ie: The “W” stands for Winter, 5w is faster flow at start up and for the Winter than the 10w. The second rating of 30 is flow rate at normal operating temperature. You can limit the amount of damage and oil flow issues in cold temperatures by going with a good oil. I personally run either of these three, Amsoil, Royal Purple and Red Line.

I checked my oil pressure today I never look at it 5w30 hot idle 25 psi 50 when cruising guess its normal then again your engine had a lot less miles.

Damn shame the engine **** the bed, might be a clogged oil pump? Either way ****** situation and on a side note I never would had a rebuilt top end with that kind of mileage without doing a complete rebuild. Doesn’t help matters now but I’ve never seen a rebuilt top end on 100k plus bottom end equate to anything but troubles quickly down the road. Too many tolerances change between internals with that kind of mileage not to opt for a complete job. Good luck with the dealer.
