Ok to mix oil weights?

As I was getting ready to change the oil in my truck,
I noticed that one of the quarts that I have
Is 5w30, instead of the 5w20 that I meant to get.
So, do I mix the one quart of 5w30 with the other six quarts of 5w20? Or do I wait and pick up another quart of 5w20?

Generally ok and generally frowned upon. Nobody knows what a company used to make weight and most of the paper from trusted sources say it is frowned upon. However, the ability of your engine to work properly no matter what pile of **** product you chose to put in there, proves that even if you end up shearing off viscosity, it wont hurt a thing.

It won't hurt anything, but if you haven't done it yet just grab another qt of 5w20

sorry for the delay in getting back. I only had access through my phone last night, and I hate trying to type things out on a little touch screen.

I decided to just wait till this weekend to change the oil; I'll pick up another quart of 5w20 on the way home from work today.

The only advantage/reason that I wanted to use the 1 QT of 5w30, was that it would have saved me a 50 mile trip to the auto store and back. My truck is the newest vehicle we have, and the only one that requires 5w20 oil. guess I need to pick up a few extra quarts, just to have on hand.
