One of the Cargo lights is not working on my 2017 1500. When I looked at the owner’s manual, under CHMSL/Cargo Lamp, it says: LED (Serviced at authorized dealer).

What does that mean? The bulb cannot be replaced?

Call or visit the parts department of your local dealership, provide the VIN for your truck, and confirm if your truck has an LED CHMSL/Cargo light unit.

If it is an LED unit, chances are that there are no options to service it or replace individual bulbs.
The OEM LED taillights are not serviceable; replacement is the only option.
Make sure that you're seated when you ask for the replacement cost.

Then you might check if an aftermarket version is available.

Or, send a PM to Benny @AllMoparParts.com with your VIN, and ask for a price.
Benny is a member here and provides great service and prices for OE parts.

While we are talking about the CHMSL/Cargo light, how do I tell if the gasket has been replaced with the improved one? I see no evidence of leaking.

Are you not the original owner?

For the amount of time required to learn about the gasket and whether it's incandescent or LED, it might be worth the effort for a quick removal.

If the third brake light looks like the one in this video, you could be lucky. I changed the incandescent cargo light bulbs in mine to LED at a very low cost, using bulbs from Amazon.

If the CHMSL on your truck is an OEM LED type, I would expect it to be a sealed unit with no access to the bulbs.

Also, thank you Diver for the info.

You're most welcome.

Ramdiver gave you all the info you need.
Best do the VIN ask a question method. ]
We would need a pic of the CHMSL to venture any related guesses: ie., get a stick or sumthing and push brake pedal and take PIC of your lit CHMSL and post would be a quick tell if LED or NOT. IF LED, OEM, U gonna have to replace fixture. You can go OEM or Aftermarket. There are various choices on aftermarket with even lights that have built in cameras etc.,.

The cargo lamp /third brake light is pretty easy to remove. Two screws I think.

I have had mine out a couple of times to replace the gasket and the last time to replace a brake light bulb.

I think mine has replaceable cargo light bulbs too but not 100% sure.

Take it out and see and replace the gasket before you put it back. I made my own gasket both times I have done mine with no leaks.

Probably better off with THIS Morimoto unit, if you end up going the replacement route.

Are we talking about the white lights on the 3rd brake light assembly or one of the 2 cargo lights on the sides of the bed?

On my '17 the 3rd brake light is...was all incandescent. The only stock LEDs on my truck are the 2 cargo lights on the sides of the bed.

I'm going out on a limb and going to guess they're referring to the third brake light (CHMSL).

:pGot it. I did not think those came in LED in 2017. My mistake. Maybe a trim level thing. My Bighorn is incandescent.
Wonder what trim level the OP has...
That specific info not available neither in post or Avatar info.

2017 Ram 1500 SLT Crew Cab. Sorry I left that out. I have not figured out how to add that info to my profile.

The options to display truck specifics are available, just not apparent.

I added DS to the truck year in my avatar for 4th gen and the rest to my signature line.

Looks interesting. And Amazon said: Fit 2017 1500 for Back Up light, if model w/o Projector-Type Headlamps.

If you do not have LED, U can prob open up and replace bulb(s). But you might just wanna put in a whole new unit and reseal, whateva works for U. There are numerous configurations and "options" available, just wateva floats yer boat.

I used those Auxito bulbs in the 3rd brake light/cargo bulbs location (CHMSL), they're awesome!

I've always been annoyed that I can't control those cargo lights, like I could with my former Tundra.
I will fix that someday after the warranty has expired, but for now, the LED bulbs have made me appreciate the cargo lights.

I can back up to my front walkway at home, and the entire walkway is well illuminated at night, including the front door keyhole that is at least 35' or more away.

I added different LED bulbs to the reverse lights, another great low-cost improvement.

Beware of trusting Amazon to inform you about what fits and what doesn't fit, they're usually wrong.
Do your own research. Determine the P/N for the bulbs and buy that part, regardless of what Amazon suggests.

If I had trusted them, most items wouldn't have fit my Warlock.

Check your owner's manual, look online, or cross-check info at numerous places like RockAuto.
Or, call or visit your local stealership with your VIN.
