Hello, looking at ordering a 2020 1500 as I can’t find one anywhere with the options and color that I want. Dealer I’ve been dealing with quoted me 3ish months and said I’m at the mercy of whatever incentives and rebates are in place when vehicle is delivered. I understand this and see where they’re coming from but I am not going to order a truck and have no idea what it’s going to cost once it gets here. I’ve never ordered a vehicle before, always found what I wanted on the lot so I’m clueless about this situation. Is that just kind of the way it works?

Short answer: Yes.

My dealer is telling me 4-6 weeks.

I will never buy a truck off the lot - there will never be one that's what I want. Maybe I'm just too picky, but I want what I want and when I'm spending $50k I expect to get it*. I just put my latest order in two days ago.

*within the realms of what's available. Can't believe the number of bonehead conflicts - like you can't get the multi-function tailgate if you have the air suspension. Or you can't get Level 2 Package unless you have the E-Torque.

Yeah some of their rules are bananas. I need a front bench, want 6’4 box, sunroof, silver, e-tourque and 3.92 gears. I don’t believe that combo exists in the country

I would never play by those rules. If we can't agree on a price at order time, no order.

What shows on the contract you sign? There is no price?

The one time I factory ordered a vehicle (a Dodge, oddly enough), the bill of sale was like any other... Price agreed on, rebates, tax, etc. Gave them a deposit and waited. Paid the balance of the deal when the car arrived.

When I ordered my 2007 Ram, I was given the price before ordering. At the time of delivery you get whatever incentives are in place at that time. For me, I picked up my truck on March 1 2007. Well starting on March 1 the Hemi was a free upgrade so since I ordered a Hemi as an upgrade, they deducted the cost off the Hemi off the balance due. It was a pretty sweet deal.

This may only be at my local dealership, but I was told that I would be guaranteed to receive whatever incentives I qualify for, which were in place at the time I place the order. In addition to those, I would also receive any new incentives which may be added after placing the order, and before I take delivery. Since the time period is 4 to 6 weeks, there will be at least one potential for added incentives since they change monthly. So, I would have a price when placing the order, with the possibility of the price going down if there are new incentives I qualify for. But the price will not go up.
