Hey everyone.
Got a 2021 Rebel 5.7 V8 and I’m experiencing overheating issues. Got the truck new with 1000 miles. At about 1500 miles it started overheating. The dealer replaced the water pump. Now at 2000 miles it’s overheating again. The fan also constantly roars obnoxiously. I’m covered by warranty but I don’t want to get in a back and forth with the dealership just throwing parts around and guesstimating.

Im kinda ticked off honestly because 1. It’s a new truck and 2. It took a week to get the water pump replaced.

Any advice? Is overheating a common issue with the 5.7 and how concerned should I be?

Since my original post I’m on my 4th water pump. The dealer keeps switching the water pump. I’ve reached out to Dodge FCA to discuss a buyback but so far they’ve just opted to only instruct the dealer to swap water pumps.

Picked up my truck from the dealership service today after being without it for the past 2 weeks.

Go to take out the trash and look what I now have to deal with…..

Speak with a lemon law attorney. What they're doing is the definition of insanity. It's not normal for these engines to overheat, especially when new. There is something wrong and it's obviously not the water pump.

Contact @RamCares and see if they can help escalate the process in some way. It's surprising the dealership and FCA are continuing to replace the water pump. Obviously that's not the entire issue. Troubleshooting seems to be a lost art these days.

Well if the dealer changes the water pump a few more times they're bound to make it the problem. D'oh!

@Reexy try taking the truck to a different dealership if possible. There was a guy which a dealership replaced all 6 injectors on his EcoDiesel 3 times before he switched dealerships for repairs. If your not familiar with diesel injectors, one of them cost more that all 8 in your Hemi and it's rare to loose more than 1 at a time let alone go through 18 of them. It was a problem with the ECM.

X2 Take it to a different dealer let them worry about it, If you try to do anything they will void your warrantee.

That dealer would get tired of me, as I would raise all kinds of h _ _ _! Then I would tell them I am going to post reviews about their service dept. everywhere online in addition to going to corporate. Definitely research the lemon laws of your state and pursue that as well. Not normal for a new truck. I would make them come pick up the truck or give me a loaner as well.

Is there a way to do a flow test of the cooling system? There must be a blockage someplace.

@JayLeonard I think that’s what they’re doing. Each time I’ve taken it they’ve said a test was done and that the weak point was the water pump. They’re always vague and tight lipped.

FCA had district or regional technicians that make rounds to the various dealerships to help with difficult problem vehicles. Find out when your dealership is getting a visit and make them schedule your truck.
Better yet make them get that person there asap.

Are they changing the thermostat as well or just throwing water pumps at it? It sounds like something simple like an air pocket but it may have an internal problem and that’s why you got it at 1,000 miles

Update:

Still at the dealership. Service guy called and said they changed the water pump again and reported a “possible issue” with the harmonic balancer. When asked for clarification he said he wasn’t sure but was just told that by the maintainer servicing my truck…

If you have not done it already, write down everything you have went through so far with this, and add to it as you go, put all dealer paperwork with it, etc.

Go see a lemon lawyer, ASAP!

I wonder if the Harmonic Balancer is coming apart
The harmonic balancer used to be 2 pieces of metal with hard rubber bonded to both of those metal pieces, i don't know if they still make them that way.
If the harmonic balancer was out of round, it would put uneven pressure on the water pump & wear the water pump out quickly
If the rubber was separating & shifting sideways, it could throw the fan belt off, so i don't think that is what is happening
