I have a 2022 Ram Sport with 1500km on it and the front bumper is already has stone chip and paint flaking off. Anyone either have this problem? I had the 3M put on the hood of the truck as soon as I got it but didn’t think about the bumper

It's a forward facing painted surface. It will definitely see abuse like this. The amount of damage is directly proportional to the amount and size of gravel on the road. You can protect it with PPF, but now that you have damage you'll want to do some paint correction before applying PPF if you want to do it right. I'm regretting not getting PPF when my truck was new, but there's no point in dwelling on that mistake. I'll probably take care of the paint correction myself, then have PPF professionally installed when the weather gets nicer. But the damage on mine is not as significant as on yours. I've been pretty successful at avoiding driving on roads that get sanded (graveled) in the winter here.

I also have a 2022 Sport with the same problem. I have owned Ram for the past 20 years and never had this problem. I called my dealer today about it. They told me to bring the truck in.

I have the same experience big rust mark I called the dealer but they are saying it is "outside influences". Since my 2020 Ram Sport is a "pavement princess" I was discouraged that the paint would chip and rust . Same area as pictures posted.

That chipping is a big reason I still order my vehicles with chrome bumpers. The 3M will protect the painted ones a bit, but even it doesn't solve the whole problem. I do have the hood, rocker panels etc 3Med.

Bummer about the rock chips. I've never had painted bumpers on my trucks, but the wife's vehicles tend to have them. They do get ugly over time. When I was ordering my '22, I talked to a buddy who is a body shop owner about this. He said to fix one, it'd be $1500+. He recommended going with chrome, which is what I did.

My 2021 painted front bumper looks like that as well. When it was new I thought about getting the clear bra, but that needs to be replaced over time as well. It will start to yellow. So figure I’ll repaint the bumper when needed.

Not a good choice. Replacing the 3m cost about 20 percent of what it cost to get a bumper prepped and painted properly.

You’re probably right, but I can paint it myself.

Well, 3m is pretty easy to do yourself as well.

In my business, i either Lead or Follow semi trucks

When i lead, i am approximately 1/8th to 1/4 mile in front of the semi truck, the distance depends on the type of road. On a major highway, i would be 1/4 mile ahead.
On a curvy country road, i have to remain just barely in sight of the front of the semi & i have to be ready to accelerate at any time, because i may have to block traffic where there is a bad section of narrow bridges & sharp curves.

If i am behind the semi truck, i have to be tailgating the rear of the trailer or the load on it. The trailer tires are constantly throwing road dust, the size of sand, up to fair sized rocks, the semis mud flaps catch most of it, i just hope the rest misses my Ram.
The reason that i have to drive so close, is because i am not suppose to let any other vehicle between me & the rear of the semi trailer or the load on it.

I go through at least one windshield a year
I have the highest Bug Guard made for pickups that i could find
I have a screen for rocks & bugs right in front of the radiator & condensers.

The real damage is done to the Sport Bumper & the sheet metal lip above the windshield, at the roofline. The headlights of course are pitted, but usable

That is one reason that i charge $1.70 per mile, when i am following a load. or $170 for short distance loads.
Another reason is the Million Dollar Insurance :(

The newer products resist yellowing, and usually have something like a 7 year warranty against just that. At least that's the warranty I had the last time I had it applied. It never showed any signs of yellowing in the 3 years I owned that car.

Major product issue with the Laramie Sport. I have 1,500 miles with 6 months of use. City driving 95% of the time vs highway and no off road use. Truck exterior is flawless except the bumper which has 4 chips already. Would appreciate any feedback for anyone who has gone back to the dealer on this. (Will be headed there soon) Thanks in advance!
