After a while now... I don't think the paint matches all that well with the truck. I used the dupli-color "perfect" match (pw7).. I'm wondering now if just a can of white would look better.

I could have told you that. Duplicolor clear coat tints the white slightly. Mine didn't look that bad. How thick did you go?
Not trying to be an ******** but of you searched forum you would have seen my post from recently doing this project. Also, if I'd have known you were gonna paint white using duplicolor I would have mentioned it.

Yes I figured it was the clear, so I started over. Only two coats that time around... Glad that's all it is. I ran a google search and it really only pulled up a few things on a different forum. I was only interested in how to take the mirror cover off.. Everything else I could handle, but now I wish I did read it. What brand did you go with?

I know when I did mine I went to a local auto shop and had them make me two cans to get the actual color match. Cost was $19 per can and then I purchased a two part clear coat for an additional $18.
I was all set and good to go until they went on the floor when painting...lol. Point is, you can get color matched for about $7 or $8 more; at least in my neck of the woods...

Well it did look like the right color until I applied the clear. Would be a good comparison to see the two together. It had the paint code on the can.

It's almost like pillsbury chocolate chip cookies and when my wife makes chocolate chip cookies. They are both chocolate chip but the one made fresh always taste better.

It's a shame as the paint from a can is amazing and stands up very well. Rock hard.

The same brand as you did for both clear and color coat.

The clear coat leaves a little yellow, almost as if the painted part was in a room full of smokers.

Pretty easy. Pull down on the mirror to release it and then unscrew the 3 screws and that's really it. Check YouTube or search the forum for the instructions...

I'm going to give it another shot this weekend.

I'd suggest cleaning and scuffing the cover then repaint then add another brand of clear. Whatever you do don't use the other duplicolor lacquer clear coat they sell in a larger can that has multiuse on it. That **** stays tack and won't work . I wish I could advice you of what other clear to use that doesn't tinge the white, perhaps you can advice.

I returned the empty cans of paint and the clear coat to pepboys today.. I'm still using the same dupli-color paint, but I picked up a can of clear from the local automotive paint store. This stuff is perfectly clear and has the hardener built into the can. Once activated, you have 48hrs to use it. It's a night and day difference!! I would have had them mix me up some paint and can it, but it would have ran me about $90. Dupli-color is just fine.

I will post final product once it's all dried up and back on the truck, to see how well the color matches now.

That clear coat is no joke. I used that one as well and it is the real deal; good luck but you won't need it. You got this...

Eastwood sells that sort of clear coat also. But I wasn't prepared to pay 25 a can for the mirrors.
However, I may use this on my fender flares which are currently painted single stage urethane. Don't ask!

I am thinking the same exact thing about the fender flares, when I get them. Depending on how this turns out, may do those myself as well. Btw, one can is more than enough for both mirrors... Unless you wanted to put on like 15 coats per mirror.
