So I think I may want to paint my chrome bumpers... dont really mind the chrome and plan to leave some chrome accents to fit in with my wheels.. But I have a vision and its with thee bumpers matching the rest of her body..

I got a quote for 400 to color match ( Black forest green pearl ).. Sam guy who painted my flares.. So I trust him.. But is that a decent price?

I have been doing research on it and read some bad stories about the paint eventually coming off.. Spoke to the painter and he simply said they must have used a cheap chrome additive. He assures me all will be fine..

Anyone do it?how much did you pay and did you have any issues with paint peeling from he chrome

I wouldn't bother trying to paint chrome because it will come back off at some point. You would be better off buying painted bumpers and even those will eventually look ****** if you don't take precautions to protect them.

thats a common answer from a painter to get your business, we have some good painters here, and i know many outside of the forum, your chrome bumper is going to peel, it may be years and it may be months, it does all depend on the prep work and how you use your truck, IMO it greatly depends on when you get the first good rock chip, once you do that its all over, its just how it is, chrome doesn't like paint.

one thing to keep in mind is chrome plating is a chemical process done to the metal, so its not like paint where you can just sand it off and be done with it, so id say either get your bumpers vinyl wrapped (if they have a vinyl close to your color) or buy some paintable bumpers

i think you could get away with powder coating since its a more involved process, but the trick will be getting a color match with your Black forest green pearl

Not sure where you are but I just passed up black painted bumpers and grille for $350 in the Jax area last week. The bumpers needed to be painted again, but they can be painted at least.

Can't paint chrome but way less than a 100 bucks couple hrs of time. Plasti dipped holds up fine that's what I did.

Why not find your local motorcycle/show car shop and see who they use for chemical stripping. You can get your chrome bumpers chemically stripped and then painted/power coated
