Painting the bumpers

I have some questions about painting my bumpers.

I have chrome bumpers with a dark red/maroon paint on the body and I was wanting to get the bumpers to match the truck color. Has anyone painted chrome bumpers and if so how does it look.

And also my brother has a ram with stock black bumpers (I think they are plasti-dipped but not sure) and he would trade with me. Would it look better or be easier to paint over the black?

if his are the black ones (NOT plastidipped) - then do yourself a favor and swap to get his.

Painting over chrome sucks.

If the bumpers are plati-dipped could I paint over them and still have the gloss look?

May be more expensive but another option to get rid of the chrome would be to get them powder coated.

JJ is right, paint chrome sucks. You have to ruff em up pretty good and use self etching primer also.

You need to find out what bumper's your brother has. Surely, he know's whether or not he Plasti Dipped them. If it was something a previous owner did it would be easy to tell. Plasti Dip will simply peel off.
But I agree with the others, I'd buy a set of OEM painted bumpers before I'd try to paint chrome. You may even get a dealer to swap you a set, if yours are dent/scratch free.

^^ X2. Most dealers will gladly take some Chrome bumpers in exchange for the stripper truck grey ones. I would advise against painting over chrome.
I've seen a bunch of trucks where it didn't work for a ****.

Thanks got the advice about the dealerships and about my brothers bumper I do t think it's plasti dipped but i don't know how to put pictures up so could someone help me with that.

Painting chrome is doable it just takes A LOT more prepwork and use of the correct products.

You also could paint over plasti-dip but I cannot advise to how great it is. Thor painted over his plastidipped bumpers and it held up well.

My brother in law painted over his plasti dipped rims and it didnt hold up. i dont know what type of paint he used but it wouldnt stick at all.
