Hi all.
There's not a ton out there for the Pedal Commander for the V6. I wanted to put something out there for anyone doing research.
I'm not interested in doing extensive mods to the truck and can't see myself ever going through the time and expense to do chipping, so that left Pedal Commander.
Stock: I didn't like the stock acceleration, especially the dead spot in the middle of the pedal travel that seems to do nothing. I didn't like that I nearly had to floor it to get the transmission to kick down.
Short answer: It changed how the truck drove and responded to acceleration.
How it drives now: The acceleration is more aggressive and predictable.
Due to the throttle position tweaks (I assume) I have also found the shift points to be slightly more aggressive. To explain, in stock form, under moderate acceleration, I found that the transmission would shift a little early - especially into third gear - usually at or a little before 2k RPM. The overall effect was a sluggish driving experience. After Pedal Commander it holds onto the gear slightly longer - 2.25-2.5k RPMs - which makes for a more consistent linear acceleration.
What I tested:
City: Very noticeably improved acceleration. Easy to modulate speed to take off hard or a more casual or 'poky' take off from a stop.
Sport: a bit more 'jumpier' off the stop. This is your choice if you have to be the first off the line at the traffic light.
Sport +: Snapping necks
I was literally scaring people in parking lots because it was so twitchy.
Eco: It's slooooowwww. Note, I did see that someone on a forum (here or otherwise, I can't remember) that said it *** dangerous. That's ridiculous, step on it and it moves. It's the first 1/3-1/2 that's slowed down.
Numbers: I measured MPG, too, because I was curious what impact each mode had. I stuck with one mode for a complete tank.
Start MPG with stock throttle - average of 7 fill ups: 19.45 mpg
City - 19.4 - essentially no change
Sport - 21.34 - 9.6% increase - would need to repeat this to feel comfortable saying sport improves mpg.
Econ - 20.76 - 6.7% increase - lots of hwy with this tank. That's what I attribute to the increase.
I'm running city +4 right now. I might bump up to sport after a few tanks.
