Hunter just asking if you have watched all of Banks videos on the subject?

The extra capacity is not a good thing, if that slipped past you I can understand your comments.

The point here is that the differences may not be noticeable to the average consumer or as detrimental as it could be because no one reports failures.

Banks does high end stuff for racing applications. In those situations you want as little as you can get away with, in the mean time he counts on the average consumer to say “I need this” and do his stomping, as you just did for hytech.

Yes I did see the videos. The big thing I noticed was the second clear view diff cover was squared to look like mag hytec and didn't preform well. Mhtec isn't squared on the inside so imho, the video is misleading.

Btw, I am not promoting mag hytec, I am running a stock cover. 10 years ago I ran a G2 cover on my wrangler.

Well I have a Mag & it is squared off (flat) in the back & deeper/further away from the ring gear.
It's not as large because of the fillet that meets the back to strengthen casting.

From what I was told awhile back is the older covers were in fact squared off inside but they had changed them to what mine and the one in the picture that was posted earlier looks like.
I dont know if they did them all or just the ones for the 1500s like that.
Its also not a true channel like the stocker or the Banks cover but not square either like the old style cover, would be interesting to see if it being more rounded on the inside helps any or does not matter.

The one I posted earlier is what mine looks like, probably about 1.5 to 2.0 inch radius (fillet) to flat back side. If it does not have a channel it is square off at the back at some point, not saying it is in a square shape, just the back is flat.......Stick a fork in me I'm done......want say another word about Mag diff.......lol

Wow the biggest thing most of you are missing is the fact that Banks it showing examples for a specific rear axle housing. The one he is using as a test mule.
Of course the covers for the smaller housing on a 1500 are going to be shaped differently. Every single mag rear cover I have seen for any of the bigger rear ends is square/flat exactly like the ones in the video.

Then the argument of fins or protrusions on the bottom. First of all it is a machined prototype. The cost and wasted material involved in machining a production part like that would be ridiculous.

Secondly everyone talking about ground clearance and catching rocks, last I knew you didnt build much heat at low speeds and there wouldn't be enough air flow to do any good anyway. So obviously that is not the crowd he is targeting.

I just want to know which covers he found issues with if any.

Meh, no reason not to be civil. If we all agreed on everything this forum would be pretty boring. Lol

I have just seen one painted cover from Banks FB-feed.

I think I don't have the balls to put a cover on my truck that goes lower than stock :(

"Brad Sankey put a beating on his 1,081 hp ‘05 Duramax this week at Diesel Power Challenge. Dyno, 1/4 mile drag, 1/8 mile trailer tow, and sled pull. (he won the sled pull) Brad data logged his rear diff fluid temps using his iDash DataMonster. Stay tuned for the video."

The project wasn't dropped. The project was being filmed and posted in real-time. When we found out that we could improve upon the existing aftermarket rear diff covers, we paused, filed a few patents and returned to testing. What should have taken just a few months has stretched out to a year. This is mainly due to the manufacturing method. Almost all aftermarket covers are sand-cast. Unfortunately, the Banks cover must be die-cast because of its long thin fins. The covers are now in production and are scheduled to be available mid-August for GM/RAM 14-bolt diffs.

A couple things of note. The cover does not hang down any lower than the stock diff housing. If the cover hits something then that means you've already hit your differential housing. The scoops are made to break away so in the event that you do hit something the cover will not rip off. Yes, scoops. The patented ram-air scoops take air from under the diff and channel it up through the fins. In our research, we found that there is roughly an 18" area of completely static air behind the diff. Like a low-pressure zone under an airplane wing. That's where the scoops come in. Some will like the style and some will hate it. But one thing is certain, it's the most functional cover available and the only one that improves upon the RAM heavy tow package upgraded cover.

here's the final video about the cover, you can see at the end that they designed it to break "properly" if it hit something. Still I'm keeping my stock cover.

Quick look on their website and it doesn't even seem to be available for the 1500 diff
