Hey guys new guy here ! Hopefully you guys can help me out a little. I got a 2004 ram 1500 5.7 with about 154000 kilometres on it . My tranny temp light comes on every once in a while and when its cold it takes a few seconds to pop into gear after putting it in drive . Light started coming on a while back so hade the tranny flush done about 100000 kilometres thats when it started taking a few seconds to pop into gear and it didn't stop the tranny temp light either. Light always comes on on cool days with no load. With all the towing I do even on hot days it never comes on . When it does it usualy not long and if I turn the key off and on it goes away and doesn't come back . I'm hoping it's just a sensor problem or short . Does anyone have any input on this ? I would appreciate any help . Thanks

Buddy of mine had a similar problem but he used to always do burnouts and stuff in his truck. It would take a bit to switch gears till one day it just stopped and he needed a new tranny. Not saying that's your problem but there really is not much process to the tranny function

Not much process to the tranny function?

That couldn't be any more incorrect. There are more things going on in an electronically controlled automatic transmission than a modern engine. There are more moving parts, a lot of electronically controlled components and a ton of fluid passages that are all crucial for proper operation.

To the OP: The last time I had a transmission that had delayed engagement, it was a fluid delivery problem caused by low pressure. There are a quite a few things that can cause it and I'll be the first to admit that Dodge transmissions are not my specialty, but I would start by checking the fluid level, checking solenoid operation and then the next step would be to pull the valve body and then check the accumulators. Again, this is generic information since I'm not 100% familiar with this specific transmission.

The bad news is that this is not a job for the feint of heart. Dodge should be able to do diagnostics on the transmission which will at least test the electronics to see if they are the problem and help narrow it down.
