Any idea what a shop will charge to do this? Wondering how many shop hours are called for to do this. I am pretty sure my 03 1500 QC laramie with 86k has a bad one. I do not have the time or place to do it myself(too cold outside to do it in the driveway).
Anybody know if dealers use a better gasket than the original ones that came in our engines.
Used 1 quart of oil in 1000 miles, cylinder 8 misfire, if truck is not warmed up, misses horribly and CEL flashes. Also only getting 9mpg. Might see if my uncle is willing to do it(retired motorhead). Thanks

Prob 4-5hrs labor. Honestly it's not hard to do yourself if you have basic hand tools. I have it down to 2hrs time myself lol. All you really need is the updated mopar or felpro gasket (steel reinforced) and the intake to block gaskets, intake bolts, tb gasket, and injector orings.

One dealer said $525(5 hrs $105 per hr)+ parts.
Another said 5-6 hours + parts assuming no bolts break. He could not remember them doing any for years, sound like he though it was an uncommon problem on 5.9's.

Yaaaa it's not uncommon. I wouldn't let a dealee touch it unless they use the updated gasket ie the steel reinforced one

Mechanic charged me 655 to do mine, and failed within five months. Probably better off doing it yourself.

I was quoted a while back for $700 labor to do just the plenum repair by the Dodge Dealership.

I decided to do it myself, and for $500 and a weekend I repaired the plenum with Fel-Pro gasket AND the aluminum plate, valve cover gaskets, timing chain, chain tensioner, water pump, replaced both O2 sensors, new cap, rotor, spark plugs, and wires, cleaned fuel injectors, new O rings, and a total coolant flush and refill, new thermostat, new coolant temp sensor, power steering flush, AND an oil change + filter.

ALL of that, for less than what the stealership wanted for 1 repair. And the BEST part is that I know all of the work was done correctly with proper care, and not half-assed by some mechanic in a rush to finish as quickly as possible.
