I just picked up my white 2500 and want to get things off to a good start as far a caring for this vehicle. My plan is to wash the truck, clay bar, then wax. My question is: do I need to polish the truck after using the clay bar and before wax? Or since it is new just wax after the clay bar? All my supplies I have on order from adams polishes.

After you clay bar you should check for any small scratches the clay bar might have left. If you see any then you should polish your truck. Some people skip the polish step and go right to the sealant and/or wax without polishing, however I always polish after I clay bar. Polishing your truck is what makes the paint "shine" and corrects any small scratches in the finish. The sealant and/or wax give it depth and protection. Good sealants protect for app. 6 months whereas a good wax will protect for less than a month.

I would probably use the polish as well. I know I would for sure clay bar it, especially since its white.

Any time you clay you may induce haze or marr which would need polished.

Always a good practice to hit it with some polish after claying, but only if necessary. If you see any swirls/marring, then go ahead and clean it up with a polish.

If your paint looks great after claying, then forgo the polishing step(s) and go straight into sealant/gaze/wax of your choice.

I avoid removing clear coat as often as possible!

Got to be realistic with yourself. Are you really going to maintain a show car finish on your 2500?
If so, then go crazy, if not, I'd worry far more about sealing it and waxing it to protect what you have.

Hey I just wanted to say you guys at Adams are great! The products are second to none and the fact that you guys take the time to answer questions on here goes way beyond what someone would typically expect from a corporation for lack of a better word.

Your results will always be better if you are working with a cool surface.

I am just wondering if you are suggesting that claying is hard on clear coat ?

I have only clayed something once and that was after I had a car shipped out by rail from Montreal and I assume it was from the train but it was covered with black debris of some sort that would not wash off. The car must have been right behind that diesel loco to get like that
