Hello Forum Folks! I am about ready to do the next mod (re-gearing to 430's) on my 2018 Ram 3500 dually. Unit has a lift and rides on 37' tires. I have been kicking around the idea of getting the gears polished prior to install. I ordered the Nitro Gears after much research and now hear that the gears are good but pretty nosy. My truck is also pulling a 40' 5er so gearing down is preventative work to ensure my baby does not fry the tranny or worse.

Has anyone on the forum polished gears prior and do you recommend anyone. I am just liking the research floating around showing significantly less wear, better oil temps, much longer lasting, and quite operations.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Seems to me they would be polished just from normal use by the time you do the first gear oil change.

They do that to help smooth the contacting surfaces. Personally I don’t see a need to polish them.

Well i bit the bullet and got my new Nitro 430s polished prior to install and it sucks these gears will never be seen. These things are a mirror finish. Guys at New England Gear and Polish did these right for me..

Hopefully the comments about noisy Nitro gears will not be an issue. And I am convinced that compared to the raw gears polishing is the way to go. Being that these gears are going in my dually with 6" lift rolling on 37" tires and pulls my 42' 5er I want to make sure I did everything posible to keep wear and tear to a min. 20210116_140630.jpg 20210116_140624.jpg 20210116_140619.jpg 20210116_140610.jpg 20210116_140606.jpg

I didn’t know this was a thing. Wouldn’t it change how the ring carries and sheds oil from the bottom of the diff?
