So, I got the Porter Cable polisher for Christmas. Just received my order from Adams polishes for pads and other stuff. Now I have a question.

What sped are you typically running the Polisher? Variable speed from 1-6. Don't want to screw up my new truck with too high a speed. Thanks.

When correcting I always run on 5 or 6 speed.......make sure you apply about 14 lbs. pressure and go slow take your time and do a 2x2 test section first so you will know what it is going to take to correct your paint. Thanks for your business!

Thanks. I don't have any corrections needed in my paint as the truck is nearly new. Still set it at 5-6? I suppose I could start it out slow and go from there.

Btw, you guys shipped it fast. Ordered the other day and as I was unpacking my truck from our vacation in the driveway the FedEx guy delivered today.

I'll let them answer your questions, but one tip I can give you is after you put anything on your pad(liquid) make sure the pad is on the truck surface before you turn it on. Sounds simple enough but it only takes once before you learn that lesson for yourself---LOL

Just so you know with the PC it is impossible to screw up your paint, on to the speed question, I start at 2-3 and up the speed to 5 towards the end. Good luck and remember have fun.

Great point you do want to start and stop with the PC in contact with the paint. As far as applying waxes, sealants or glazes you would want to run on speed 2 or 3.
Happy New Year!

You will be AMAZED, that in the right lighting(sun gun, high powered halogen work light) just how many imperfections a vehicle has off the lot.

Speed 4-6 for correcting, 2-4 for polishing, and 1-2 for applying waxes is typically what i use, however, it depends on the hardness of the clearcoat, and they type of product you are using.

You won't screw you truck even with the highest speed due to its safety feature. About the appropriate speed, it really depends on the work you will be doing including the product. Best is to read the instruction of the product you will be using also the right process on using it.

Exactly what 2014moparam said. There will definitely be imperfections in your paint that will need to be corrected.

With a Porter Cable I pretty much always use it on 6 for correcting as you need the speed out of it; especially if you're using a 6" or 7" pad. You won't be able to screw up the paint with it as it's not a forced rotation polisher. If you press too hard, it will stop spinning.

I find using 5 inch pad better compared with 6 inch. The rotation becomes very slow with 6 inch pad.

Just to clarify - you can screw up your paint with a PC. Its just very forgiving. Had someone that wanted a couple scratches out of their black paint. Grabbed my PC and started going to town. Went right through the paint. (He was using my stuff, not me)

I just state this in case anyone reads that you can't screw up your paint and goes all hulk on their car with this thing.

My favorite combo is Lake Country 5.5" pad, with some Menzerna PF2500 for an all-in-one solution.
