Hello All - I picked up a Brand new 2020 1500 Bighorn a couple weeks ago and I’ve been enjoying it so far. A nice upgrade from my 2014 Bighorn.
I’ve noticed/ been concerned by a few software issues and I wanted to see if I’m alone. Doing some googling I’ve seen I might be about a few issues.

1) Is anyone else’s Auto Back Brake Assist insane?! Seems like it is for many. I can’t even back up on a flat asphalt parking lot without it locking up on me every 3 feet.

2.) I have a brand new, Apple authentic, usb c to lightning (and usb to lightning) Cable but sometimes if my phone is plugged into my truck USB port (1 or 2 - doesn’t make a difference) before I start it OR shortly after I start it (within 10 seconds or so) it doesn’t engage CarPlay. iPhone X with all the latest updates. This is moderately annoying.

3.) I randomly lose the ability to control the audio. Neither the turn knob or the steering wheel buttons will control it. So it’s sometimes stuck very low or very loud. Doesn’t control volume in any audio mode (sat/ car play, media, am/fm, etc) It only starts to work again randomly or after I turn off the truck and open a door, the restart the truck.

4.) Sometimes, when I shift my truck into reverse - it completely disabled my climate control system. My fans will turn off and everything will stop functioning. It says they are functioning on screen, and you can change the temp, fan speed, and climate functions but it doesn’t actually change that physically - only on screen.

I know from previous issues with my 2014 it only helps if the dealer had it happen to them - and even then they often try their best but just have to shrug it off at the end of the day.

You guys got any information on this? Anybody learned this stuff the hard way?

Hi,
I'm very sorry to hear this. Please let us know via private message if you decide to have your dealer look into this. We would like to have this documented and have a case escalated on your behalf so a Case Specialist can work with your dealer to help find a potential solution.

Record it when it happens and show the dealer.

Yes, if you don’t have your seat belt buckled or your door is open. You can override this by turning off your rear parking assist or using short seatbelt extender. I leave my parking assist off unless I’m negotiating into a tight space.

RideSquirrel:

1) U may want to change yer vehicle info in Avatar.
2) U gonna have to go to Dealer and get re-flashed. U got some software issues there. Since a new truck, free of course, just friggin inconvenience, all IMHO.......
3) Rear Brake: U can go into EVIC and turn that off:

NOTE:
The Rear Park Assist system scans for objects behind the vehicle when the transmission gear selector is in REVERSE
and the vehicle speed is less than 7 mph (11 km/h).
Front ParkSense Volume Low Med High
Rear ParkSense Volume Low Med High
Rear ParkSense Braking
Assist
On Off

I have had some of the issues you mentioned,
1. Th auto brake assist has happened only once to me, I was backing out of parking space and there was a speed bump behind me, it would not let me go over the speed bump without turnind this feature off. (so not a big deal)
2. The car play issues I have as well. 2 weeks ago I took it to the dealership and they did 3 updates, none of which worked. So they ordered me a new radio, had it installed last week. Got home to reset everything and still no carplay. Phone is synced to radio but no go. Also, previously with radio the volume would just start going up and down without touching it. This was very annoying to the point of turning it off. It would not do this all the time but when it did it sucked. Since the radio install I haven't driven it so time will tell if that is fixed. As for the carplay I have to take the truck back in for a new tailgate latch so I will have them look at the car play then.

Very likely a bad BCM. I had #3,#4 as well as no start issues and power shutdowns.

Thanks for the replies. I decided to just schedule an appointment with the dealer - but an awesome shout out to Ram Customer care swooping in out of nowhere being super helpful by escalating this. I will definitely keep everybody posted on what the deal is. Hoping it's not a bad BCM but you never know with some dealerships... if something doesn't seem right they just start replace everything part until it's all brand new again haha.

2) Yep! Happens with my Android Auto as well. Sometimes it tells me the phone isn't compatible or to try another plug. It was frustrating the F**K out of me.
I think I may have it dialed in but time will tell. I never connect my phone before I start my truck. Once started, I let the Uconnect boot up completely before I plug it in. So far so good. I seem to have had a bit of luck to plug my phone in before I start the truck (plug, wait until my phone recognizes the connection then I start) but more testing required.

3) I've had that happen a few times but lately, seems good. Probably related to #2 as it hasn't happened since I figure the above out.

Besides those annoyances, I think the UConnect is pretty sharp.
