Saw many videos about the difficulty of getting the oil filter off without having oil go everywhere. Ziplock gallon back trick seemed a PITA as well. Wondering if using something like this or something larger with bigger mouth would work.

Not sure, anything put over the filter has to be big enough to contain oil spill-over while allowing grabbing and turning filter. In my 2500, it is a breeze and easiest of any vehicle I have had and I don't even use a bag. Just gloves and immediately put it in drain pan. The sill with the drain hole below the filter may get a bit on it but a couple shop towels cleans it up.

I've seen and read the 5th Gen 1500s are a female-dog to keep from spilling oil all over wiring harnesses, etc. I have to think a 1 Liter silicon container like this, due to it being "grippy" and spongy might help a lot with containing the oil and also making it useful for gripping.

The problem is the way the filter is situated there's very little room underneath it to put anything. I bought an oil udder and it was still a PITA to not have oil spill all over the front axle wiring harness. I also tried the gallon freezer bag trick and as soon as the filter fell in the bag it immediately slipped out of my hand and spilled oil everywhere.

Ah, that makes sense. My engineering mind knows there has GOT to be a way to make it easier. Almost believe that ziplocking a ziplock or this silicone container over it and driving a sharpened bolt into the loosened filter and letting it drain for 30-45 minutes into a bucket underneath might be the best way. If I'm changing my oil only once a year, I'm having a hard time justifying some of the other more expensive solutions (moving the filter, etc.)

I do mine about once a year too. I researched oil filter relocation kits and I'm not sold on those either. Seems more parts to fail.
I think next time I change the oil and filter I'm gonna buy a sheet of sheet metal, bend the sides up and let the oil from the filter hit the "ramp" of sheet metal and flow into my oil catch.

Remote oil and fuel filters have been in use on alot of diesals for the last 75 years with no issues ;)

Is there an oil filter relocation kit available for those engines? I'd like to force engineers to change hot oil filters on their own designs...without making a mess...with the threat of...ahh, it's Christmas. Let's just say "sure would be nice if engineers were forced to service the isht they design".

Pacbrake makes a single filter kit,but i'm no fan of it,as it uses to many low flow 90's,and needs work porting/smoothing out it's sharp edges. My truck hot idles at 50/51 psi with the dual set-up

Is your truck idling in the 700 rpm range when you see those numbers?
My truck is still at the factory ~500 rpm idle. IIRC your 50/51 is about
5 - 10 psi higher than mine. I'll have to remember to look at it the next
time it's all warmed up, probably some time tomorrow.

I've got the Purolator Boss PBL-24651 (oversize) filter and RD 5w-30 oil.

The last time I jacked up the front of my truck so I could collect a used oil sample I couldn't even SEE the filter. Those side steps are nice but really get in the way.

Yea it has the idle turned up. Both the truck and my 300 idle at roughly 725/750 ,both are running 5W-30 RL ,with a 20-820 RP filter on the car and the truck idles about 3 to 4 psi more then the 300's stock system

What steps do you have ?
I dont even jack it up to change the oil, just scoot right under it

Beats me, whatever the factory puts on a 2014 Quad Cab Laramie.
Also, 20" factory rims, OE tire size, and all chassis components are original.

It's the 14+ 1500's that are the biggest problem. Electric power steering really cramps the area.

I'd say either deal with it or relocate the filter. I have the pacbrake kit and it does fine. Max oil pressure probably dropped a couple psi, but at stock idle mine rarely drops under 40. The included fittings are probably the choke point.
