I haven't driven the truck much over the last 8 years. I went to move it yesterday and I had to power through because the power steering went. I assume it's the Power Steering Pump, but I wanted to gather experienced opinions/professional opinions on what it may be.

I'll add, the dteering was humming at me previously.

1.) I have a new Steering box to install due to play.

2.) Do I need a new pump too?

Further if sat for long time not sure u can vacuum leak a pump but you get air in lines may not work. Just throwing stuff out there

Maybe one or both of the hoses need changed. Crack the fitting loose at the pump to see if it’s still building pressure. BE CAREFUL

I take it your note to be careful means that these are high pressure?

Yes , I should have mentioned that, one side is high pressure when running .The other is low pressure return line.
I would replace the return ,in case it has an internal failure that doesn’t show easily. Plus they are cheap ,and just use hose clamps for install.
Cracking the joint at the pump just a hair should create a mess if the pump is working properly.

Crack the high line when running, or low input, just a "lil" mess, lol.
