power tail gate lock?

all this talk about tailgates being stolen as got me nervous. i am curious, does anyone have a tailgate that locks and unlocks with the key fob? mine does not lock/unlock that way, i have to use the key every time which is a PITA. i park my truck in the garage but still dont want someone taking off with it while im picking up necessities (milk, eggs, barrel of bourbon ). or is there a mod to make this happen? or is it just my truck only?

There is a power tailgate lock you can get. I don't have the part number or link with me right now, but I added it to my '12. Pretty sure I got mine off ebay. Well worth the money, and easy install.

i have power door locks and everything ive read says that if you have power locks, you should have power tail gate lock. wonder if maybe the solenoid is bad, or came unplugged???

I have the base model black express and I have power tailgate lock as we'll I think it's standard

Well I took the access cover off and looks like I dont have any kind of actuator or solenoid that would lock it. Anyone see something I dont?

I put one in at the same time I did the backup camera, works great, with the Extang tonneau cover, it keeps honest people honest

Is it easy to install and wire? Im mechanically inclined so no worries there, just wonder about the wiring hookup. My best friend owns a junk yard so I can probably get one for free just have to wait for one to roll in.

Yes , it's pretty easy and straightforward. the hardest part is running and securing the wire down the side of the truck from back to front. Do a search for ram K6869568 on google, those are the directions, read a couple of the forums too, I remember reading they did change wire colors on between two years, don't remember which ones, but it is mentioned in a few of them.

I added this kit to my 2012 last year. I believe the wiring color change was between 2011 and 2012, as mine was different than the instructions.
The wiring is simple... I found that a 1/4" drive ratchet, socket & universal joint made it easier to get the lock assembly screwed back in.

If you put the lock on it needs no programming. I did mine which is a 12. Wires did change color in 2012. You can google or search here for install. There is a great write up on it. Think if you go to like post 45 it gives the 2012 colors. If not I have it saved somewhere on my computer. Ask and I can email them to you.

I have an automatic tailgate lock on my 13 but I have the Laramie package. I don't think it's offered in all models.

Get yourself a McGard tailgate lock for $20 and call it a day.
