Guys I know the power wagon isnt set up to tow like a standard heavy duty but I figured I would ask.
Truck I’m looking at has 1250lb payload which is 100 lbs more than my 1500. How does it tow with like 7000lb behind it? Like nothing there or will it squat a bunch. I tow a 24’ boat. Maxed out it’s 7k on the trailer.

It will tow way better than your half ton, thats for sure. It will squat some no doubt, but as long as the truck is stock (not leveled anyway) it should sit pretty good when loaded down. I tow a 8000 pound camper with mine, works just fine.

With a boat trailer the tongue weight is usually lighter than a typical travel trailer. Where travel trailers are typically 10-12%, boat trailers can be in the 6-8% range.
If the truck squats a lot, check the tongue weight percentage. Weigh the truck and boat on a CAT scale then drop the boat and weigh just the truck. Subtract the total weight of just the truck from the total of axle weights of the truck with the trailer attached, that will give you the tongue weight. Add the tongue weight to the trailer axle weight for the total trailer weight. Divide the tongue weight by the trailer total weight to get the percentage. You could conceivably have a tongue weight just shy of 500 lbs for a 7000 lbs boat/trailer.
Check with the trailer manufacturer but you may just have to move the boat back slightly on the trailer to reduce the percentage.

Yeah likely 500-600lbs tongue weight. Our boat and trailer weighs 8900lbs and I have about 660lbs tongue weight. With the engine at the stern most of the weight is behind the trailer axles so less tongue weight.

It should tow it without any issues at all. That is well under the rated towing capacity of the truck, and if you can tow it with a 1/2 ton you can tow it with a PW. If you did have a lot of rear squat you can always go airbags, but I doubt it will be an issue....and I definitely wouldn't go out and install airbags prior to actually towing the boat.

I tow a 26' travel trailer and replaced my factory bump stops with Timbren progressives that eliminated my squat but stiffened up the rear ride a bit at a fraction of an airbag setup.20220511_164820 (2) CR - Tinyr.jpg

I recently pulled a 7000 lb gooseneck trailer with a 1990s dodge dakota on it I dont know what the dakota weighs. I had no issues.

Bags are the key with the soft rear springs. only 40-60psi in them makes a huge difference. Nice and level.. Tows like nothing is back there.

Ive never put anything more than 25/30 psi in mine. Has always been more than adequate to level out my loads.

But yes, bags are the key imo! Leveled truck when unloaded, and a level truck when loaded.

Late to the party but I'll throw in my two cents. I have a '22, stock PW wheels, suspension, etc. Just pulled my enclosed utility trailer with atv's around last weekend for the first time. It sits about 6000 lbs full so on the light side. I didn't notice much, if any squat. But, I must say I really really like the new transmission better than the 6-spd that was in my '15 tradesman. I pulled it up and down the Grand Mesa in CO. Coming down, I dropped 5,000 feet elevation in about a 45 minute drive and the engine braking/gear hold routine was fantastic. I hardly used the brakes at all. Huge fan here.

Just came back from a 600+ mile round road trip, with boat in tow.
Still have to push the boat back another 6 inches on the new trailer to get it sitting where I need it to- even so, had 0 issues the whole way.
Kept it at 60-65 MPH, never even felt like I was pulling something(like I felt with the 1500.)
Super happy with the way the PW handles towing, fully loaded I'm at 8k lbs(fuel, ice, gear, etc)PXL_20230430_130017773.jpgPXL_20230630_213051214.jpgPXL_20230601_023417689.jpgPXL_20230601_151457978.jpg

Now that is a real boat trailer. I'm jealous. Mine looks like an erector set.

Haha thank you! Actually meant for a 32' boat, vs my 23'(27' overall with engine, etc).
Figured I'd go double the rating on the trailer(14k trailer carry capacity vs 8k fully loaded boat) to keep stress off the trailer, boat & truck. The trailer that originally came with the boat, although well within limits, I was never truly comfortable pulling it long distances. Even though I'm OCD on maintenance, the previous trailer after every long distance trip needed wheel bearings redone, breaks(even though I upgraded everything to stainless components,) needed attention. I was just tired of throwing good money/time/effort into it. Got lucky found a 2022 trailer used once to bring a new boat from FL to NY. Had a welder extend the trailer tongue inward 4' so it would fit my boat lol Super happy with the results though, no worries about overloading the trailer with my current boat, & now have a trailer for up to a 32' boat when it's time to add to the fleet, upon wifey's approval lol.
Just installed Timber Grove air bags on the rear to get rid of any squatting. Even with 0 load on the truck, running bags @ 7PSI what a huge difference in ride quality.
I didn't expect it, but when I first drove the PW after installing the rear airbags, I could not stop smiling due to the better ride quality. Best way to describe it, almost like "floating" over any potholes, etc vs that sometimes jarring feeling lol
