hey guys,

run into a couple snags with trying to install the 8.4 radio into my 2014 ram 1500 slt with 7 speed blower hvac and 5.0 radio

i have read up and down the how to forum, but i am lost with this hvac module. do i need it? i already have a 7 speed. and if i do, where the heck is the original one? its not in the passenger "a" pillar panel where it should be according to the other guys, is it built into the current radio? i took apart the passenger side tonight and i couldnt find any hvac module anywhere...

is there any way i could use the original hvac module? if not would a dual zone hvac module work AND function dual zone?

if anyone could clear these things up with me i would appreciate it. i am in the middle of building my harness and figured i would stop before i went much further with the project

you may have better luck posting in the specific diy thread, from what I read back in 2015 when I had a 5.0 inch screen and looking for the 8.4 was yes you need to match the a/c systems up (8spd motors) or else you loose abuncha functions or it didnt funciton at all.

You don’t have one to begin with. Part of the conversion is ADDING the hvac module.

The HVAC functions are built into the 5.0" bezel and are removed on the 8.4 bezel to make room for the larger screen & so relocated to a separate module that gets installed at the pass. Air vent area.

this is exactly what i was looking for. thank you!

i will have to find one from an 8.4 truck. i have the dual zone bezel waiting. do i need the dual zone hvac module? would the dual zone be functional if i did put it in? or maybe a single zone hvac module would suffice. just have to keep my eye open at the auto wreckers for a module. that should be the last part of the puzzle for me

The modules & parts listed on the first page of the directions are correct for the 13-17 8.4 radios. There's also a link to known ram compatible Ra4 vp4-NA radios in my Ra4 fw update thread.

Is your decide to go after the 18 UAx Radio then the 18 HVAC module, 18 USB hub and a hub adapter harness are also required.

True dual zone isn't possible without replacing the entire HVAC plenum and lots of wiring. The dual zone Bezel will work as a single, but the extra buttons won't.

I think this is my problem I have a 2014 which is controlled by one button bezel and the truck I took the hvac module and the bezel off of was dual. So that means I have to find a single hvac module ? If so how do I know they all look identical?

Don't know what you're working with, but I'm sure that's not your problem.

Where did you get your 8.4 conversion harness from??
