Hi all. My remote start only works when it wants to on my 2014 Ram. I will keep pressing it over and over and then it starts (sometimes i press the lock button then press the x2 button again and it starts) . The lock, unlock and panic, on the remotes, all work fine. I tried both remotes and it's the same. Tried putting in new batteries and it's the same. Is there a way to reset it somehow?

Thanks,
Tonino

your remote start wont work if your vehicle is low on gas or has codes stored in the system. Is it a factory remote start or after market?

you can try to disconnect tbe trucks battery for a about an hour then see if it starts working. That will give the trucks systems a "reset".

What kinda codes and how would I know?

You could try visiting an auto parts store and have them test for any existing codes.

They will test at no cost. The problem is, unless a DTC is captured as a historical, it may not be present when you test.

Any DTC will disable the remote start.

Sometimes they come and go, in which case it might be worth borrowing or buying your own scanner. Then, you can test while it won't remote start.

Start with a parts store DTC check and you might get lucky.

Wouldn't it have to be a CEL to disable remote start, or will any DTC do it?

Had battery checked. Said it was good. Went to get gas and start it to leave, now it's giving me "Key fob not detected" while I'm sitting in the vehicle. Had to wait 30 sec to start and it started. Going to step 2 and disconnect the battery.

Open fob add plastic to each of the contacts in the rubber cover should work.

the "x2" button (a circular arrow with a "2x" inside) on a Ram 1500 key fob means you should press it twice within 5 seconds to initiate the remote start.

You ALWAYS have to press the remote start button twice, fairly close together, for the vehicle to start. It will never work if you just push the button once.

It will lock the doors when it remote starts. Will not remote start with a door open, or the hood open. Your owners manual has a long list of the things that must be true for remote start to work.

Yes, I do press the x2 twice but sometimes nothing. Might be that fob because I switched fobs and it worked (especially when i opened the fob and it was in pieces).
