Problems after EGR valve replacement

Check engine light came on, scanned for codes, forget the number but it was egr valve performance. Was getting 16.3mpg and no driveability issues. Cel went out but code was still current.

Replaced the valve with dorman unit, cleared the codes and right off the bat getting hesitation off idle, engine stall and down to 15.1mpg in a 35 mile commute...
Sounds crazy.. could i have gotten a bad valve?
Other issues?

Did you make sure the “tube” that goes from the egr valve to the intake was unobstructed? And yes it’s always possible to get a bad part. Did you check the wiring connector to the valve?
