The Consummer Reports rating on the 2013 Ram had almost no complaints except the weight of the tailgate--but then Dee Zee already knew that didn't they?

One word of caution to those that have installed this - check the hardware occasionally (especially shortly after install). The lower ball stud that mounts to the tailgate where the strut connects to came loose on my truck, and the nutsert became loose also from the ball stud being loose. It scuffed the paint off a little inside where the tailgate resides in the bed.

Luckily I saved the nutsert tool they gave me and I was able to make the nutsert tight again, so all is well. I did use the locktite they gave me with the kit, and I know everything was tight when I installed it because I cranked on everything enough that I thought I might break something.

Glad to hear of the amazing c/s! Even if you don't have a 2013, this is one of my favorite, cheap mods that just makes life easier. I love unlatching and letting go of the tailgate when a car guy is around LOL

The other day I was at Home Deposit and opened my tailgate. The guy driving past in the parking lot stopped and said "is that a power tailgate setup?".

I find people either think it's really cool (truck guys and gear heads) or they think something is wrong with it. It's funny.

OK so I installed my Dee Zee last night. It got dark by the time i was done. I opened and closed the tail gate, felt fine. Worked great. Woke up this morning to take a look in day light. Turns out the top piston scratched the inside of my tailgate where it rubbed.
So I made the call. Dee Zee is graciously providing me the new kit for the Ford. I commend them for their service.
My question is this. I now have a scratch in my less than a week old truck that the design of this product is responsible for. I am really happy they are taking care of me but seriously what option did they have? What about the damage?

Touch up paint. I felt the same way at first, but it's a truck, the scratch is hidden, and it doesn't impact anything. This is all my opinion though :)

Actually, mine is scratched the same. But I consider it my fault because I slammed it shut before I took time to make sure everything clears a recommended, so I'm with Joe

So I installed the Ford kit (using the Ram torx wrench). Its pretty straight forward so I can't see that I did anything wrong, but the two ends of the tailgate cable line up and hit each other and get banged up when closing. Not having a problem with the shock unit itself, but it just doesn't all fit nicely in the space available. Even gently closing the tailgate three or four times to test ripped up the rubber on either end of my cable. If i really used it normal service, the wrapped cable ends would be destroyed in a few weeks i imagine. Something's not right.

Also, does the shock make an air-sucking noise during operation for everyone? I thought they would be nearly silent.

Designflaw - I notice in your photo that you are using the black tube-like plastic piece that comes with the Ram kit in the middle of your tailgate cable. What was that for? Is it necessary on the Ford kit because it is not included with it?

I installed the ram kit this morning and had no issues. Seems great so far but I was cautious when shutting gate for first time after reading posts. But all was good. Guess it's just luck of the draw on wether or not your gonna have issues.

Did you remove the cable stop at the end on the cable that connects to the tailgate? If you remove that stop, binding should be fix. Remove that torx bolt and pop the metal piece off.

For the noise, mine does make a slight swooshing sound.

That piece did come with the ram kit. Best I can tell it makes the cable bend after that piece since you take the limiter off at the gate. Did you take that off? It may not be in the ford instructions?

Okay thanks. I'm assuming the limiter is the same thing as the cable stop that mojoe referred to - the thin little piece that stops the tailgate cable from spinning on the tailgate? Going to look at removing that when I get a chance.

Yes, correct.

I read somewhere along time ago (back in October when I bought my 2014 sport) that the ram kits were not working and they recommended the ford kit. I got the ford kit in october and haven't had a problem with mine since.

I posted earlier in a different thread that I was having issues with my DEEZEE 43301 unit for my 2013 Dodge Ram 1500. The ONLY problem I was having was the nutsert NOT tightening properly. The nutsert was turning.. DEEZEE sent me a second installation kit and I had issues with that one also. I called tech support and they offered a number of suggestions. I FINALLY got the nutsert to tighten up by putting a second nut on the bolt BEHIND the opposite end of the bolt. Once I had some pressure on it, it stopped the nutsert from rotating, NOW... EVERYTHING IS WORKING PERFECT.. I LOVE IT!!!!

had a similar problem with the nutsert getting started. once I finally abonded the 3/4" gap and EXACTLY 9 turns btween nuts in the instructions and just tightened until it seated properly it went very smooth. I simply held the nutsert with a pair of vice grips and tightened the nut until the insert was snug enough to hold itself in place. Then just added a couple turns to snug it up. My wifes favorite addition to the truck and must say I really like having it on too.

What do you mean about abandoning the 3/4" gap?
