I'm in the market for a new large vehicle, my current daily driver is a 991.2 911 turbo.

I've never had, or needed, a truck before, but my mind has been romanticizing the idea of getting one for the utility and ruggedness.

I'm 30 years old, and I'm mostly worried what my family will think (lol), because a truck is outside of our usual realm of cars.

Forums are always a good place for this kind of feedback.

I’ve owned X5’s, several Toyota Land Cruisers and Lexus LX 470’s and 570’s, as well as GX 470 and 460’s. I’m currently in a new 2019 RAM 2500 diesel. If you need a truck bed, I’d look at a new Ram Power Wagon. If you don’t, I’d look for a 1-2 yr old Toyota Land Cruiser or LX 570. And I’d not own anything new from Rover or BMW again. I’d only lease those brands.

Do you need a truck? Will you use it as a truck? If not, I'm not sure why you would buy a truck.

But that's just my take on intended purpose for a tool or piece of equipment.

That's a lot of Land Cruisers!

A Power Wagon is actually the other 2500 I'd really like to own and am strongly considering. Especially because I don't need the ability to tow.

@MADDOG

I don't need a truck bed, but it would be nice to have. I'm using an old van to haul things.

I'm more interested in a truck for the feeling, or experience, and occasional use behind driving one.

Thank you for the feedback

Truck all the way. But if U got the bucks to do a Big *** Ram or Range Rover, just depends on what U wanna do. Truck all utilitarian, but if U a car guy, and not do Truck things, go the Rover, tho I personally would neva buy one. But that is IMHO.......................................

If you decide based on reliability, I don't think there is a brand out there right now that has crappier reliability than Land Rover.

Big baller status though if you're alright spending a lot of time at the dealership with it.

Speaking from experience or just what you read on the internet ? They are not as bad as people make them out to be. It's no Toyota I agree.

You’re welcome! Yes, I’ve had my share of Land Cruisers. Truly, if you realize you really don’t want a truck, there is no better choice for a capable off-road beast with reliable, holds its value, day-to-day comfort than a Land Cruiser. And I’d get a 1-2 year old one as they’ve not been updated in a few years + it will keep you in the $60-65k range (if you spend some time searching and are willing to travel a bit to get it). Much better than $80k!

If you don't need to tow and don't really need a truck, why even look at a 2500?
Get fully loaded 1500 Limited with the 6.4' bed(in case bed space is needed)? The 1500 will ride a lot better than a 2500 as it doesn't have a solid front axle.

This is a difficult discussion to have an opinion on. SUVs and trucks are two different animals, entirely based on what you want to do. It doesnt sound like money or value is a real concern, in which case you should probably lease so you can slide into something different down the road with no maintenance obligation. You may hate the truck ownership experience or you my live it and want to push the boundaries more.

In my experience, land cruisers are far superior to the range rover for the avg consumer. its engineered to last 25 years, range rover is a classic throw away luxury car geared toward the leasing crowd. After five to ten years you have a high potential for very expensive fixes and long spans of time at the shop due to their complexity. Land cruisers are simpler by design.

If you want a truck experience, I'd go for the 1500 limited or longhorn initially so you can get a feel for whether you want the hoss 3500 ctd. Or, if an offroad capable vehicle is your fancy check out the rebel or powerwagon.
