I recently bought a Putco blade tailgate led light. And have been told to hard wire it in since my truck has a tow package and unsure if it has automatic trailer detection. I plan to hard wire it into the drive side rear break light assembly. Does anyone know which wire does what. If anyone has installed one and can help or if not and can still help that would be great not the best with electrical. Don’t want to plug it into the tow 4 pin connector want it hard wired and out of sight.
I have a 2013 ram 1500 sport with tow package Amy help would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet is to find an adapter that plugs into the rear of your 7 pin connector. That way there are no splices In the factory wiring. Use dielectric grease on the connector.
The trailer “sense” i believe comes from the brake circuit being connected.

Or you can get the curt 56584 which is the same as the ones posted above but it gives you a flat 5 pin connector that has the reverse light on the last pin. This is the one i used literally this past sunday to hook up my tailgate bar made it a quick and easy install. What ever you do i would not splice anything on the factory wiring.

This must be the one I used because I don’t remember splicing the reverse light wire. It was 5 years and a lot of projects ago.

Same thing I did with mine. Stupid easy. The pitch lighter has a plug on the reverse wire. I have Led tail lights and didn't even have to cut the red wire that the instructions state you have to. Took longer to zip tie the wiring than install the light.

One thing you'll need to do is know out the grommet in the hole for the spare tire winch. Reach back under to get at it and squeeze the tabs at the top and bottom to remove.

Your on the right track, DO NOT splice into your wires. The harness and 5 plug adapter as others mentioned works great. I have the same set up on my 2013 Sport as well.

Good call on not splicing!! I used the curt 4 pin harness on my 17 and spliced reverse wire not knowing they made a 5 pin!
On my new 19 classic i got the 5 pin harness....no cutting at all.
As stated above it takes longer to cleanup/hide wiring with zipties
Enjoy the light bar, they are great

Splice the reverse wire in the adapter harness should be the center wire from what i have read in other post then there will be no splicing at all of the factory wiring. Main reason i went with the 5 pin is for plug and play for if i ever have to warranty it out then it should be an easy swap. Not sure if the putco blade has the metal tab option for install but thats the way i would go if its an option.

The Curt 56584 with the 5 pin is the way to go. Throw a bullet connector on the reverse light and plug it in to the open hole on the flat harness. Waterproof it and you are good to go with absolutely no splicing.

I used the Blue ones, 16-14 AWG. You may have to slightly open up the tip where the metal comes together.

Gotcha ... yeah that is what I used on my buddy's @the_goodguy07 opt7 triple bar on his truck ... then we water sealed it ... I remember having to open up the tip ...
