Putting a big exhaust tip on my cummins does it help sound?

I have a strait pipe 3 inch 12 valve first generation cummins and was wondering if it would change the sound of I put a 8 inch tip on it any thoughts?

why stop at 8".. go larger!! LOL

It's your truck make it the way you want but IMO anything bigger than about 6" exhaust tip looks stupid.
