PW payload strangeness

Steel and at the legal 80 MPH towing speed limit in nearby Utah it doesn't flutter.

I have not noticed mine flutter either at slightly over the 80mph speed limits. I am used to a jk wrangler hood flutter so unless it raises an inch or more when meeting a semi I seems stable to me you have to love 80mph speed limits. we drive to Moab 2X a year and miles in Montana, Idaho and utah pass by pretty quick as lots of 80mph signs.

I looked up I-70 in the Utah Desert on the United States Library of Congress website and it gave me a picture of I-70 with Mt. Garfield in Grand Junction, CO. The US Government is never wrong about Utah and neither is Ram about my Power Wagon being a 3/4 ton truck. LOL!

Even though mine says it's a pw, from what I can tell the only thing pw about it is the powerwagon decal on the tailgate. Payload sticker on the door is the same as when looking it up. Dang pw sticker probably costs me a half pound of payload lol

funny. I grew when we did not have a speed limit and was lucky enough to legally drive for a year before the 55 was enacted, then after that it was only a $5 ticket and did not go on driving record. It was crazy when I was 18 years old I could drive down the highway have a cold beer between my legs and if I got stopped for driving 80mph it was only a $5 fine. Then in the mid 90's it again was no posted speed limit and if you were in the right place and had the right vehicle you literally could drive 100mph. There were some HP that would stop you but many would not depending on the conditions. ah the good old days.

I survived going across Nevada with no speed limits until 1974. Saw some really bad fatal accidents as a kid due to Nevada had a suicide middle passing lane. I still recall my Mom driving her brand new 1964 Chevrolet HP 327 at 120 MPH. The 55 speed limits put an end to that. Got my license in 1973 before it was implemented. Drove to 120 MPH in a '68 Mercury Cougar once legally back then. Had my Power Wagon at 100 MPH getting around two very long triple trailer trucks in a desolate part of Wyoming.

In Wyoming the Speed was listed at 80+ in some areas. That was in 66 and had my Learners permit. Miles of straight road.

So anyone have any ideas why a level 1 8.4” screen PW would be giving 40 lbs of payload up to the same truck with a level 2 and 12” screen?

Per Motor Trend their 75th Anniversary PW had a 1,466 pound payload capacity that is only 20 pounds more than my 2016 Tradesman PW capacity. It has many more options than mine though. Not a full 3/4 ton payload capacity for either though, but close enough.

Ok payload people. Just toss some air bags in there if you want to carry more in the bed. Problem solved. Yes technically you'll be overloaded so if being inspected for your job is an issue then don't skirt the boundaries but for the rest of us, we'll be just fine. Also as far as everything else is concerned, the PW is just badass. Hey where did you get that winch buddy? Umm it came with it! Fk yeah. I used mine to pull a building over this last weekend. haha. Old pos on my property. Worked like a charm.

You can sit here and argue about payloads all day. The 2021 Power Wagon with the 75 anniversary option and more gives me the payload and drive I have been wanting to upgrade to from my 1500. I have tried several 2500 models out over the last couple of years and the Power Wagon is our choice. It has the capabilities of what we will ever want . So my point is buy the payload you are looking for . Ram gives a man lots of options compared to other brands , Plus plain and simple nothing pulls like a Ram regardless of what model it is .

I pick up 4 loads of wood pellets every season. Drive up 5,000 feet of winding road over the 11,000 foot mountain summit and then down the otherside 5,000 feet in 38 miles. Pick up 2,400 pounds (60 bags) placed under a 270 pound topper. Never had an issue with 2,670 pounds within the the stock suspension PW bed, plus my weight, dogs, and recovery tools in the cab and it's 3,000 pounds. Double its capacity. Sparse to no other vehicles on the road. Never had any drivability issues. The truck rides level front to rear.

no, trucks are identical with the exception of step bars on the level 1. How much do those weigh? Would seem to indicate a level 2 is not much heavier at all than a level 1

leve 2 12” screen 1493 lbs.

Then the step bars it is. Ultimately the level one and level 2 are probably just 10 to 20 lbs apart depending.

The step bars...they are probably over 100lbs

That would be your difference. And that is enough to do it.

I added the oem step bars after delivery of mine and they are light. Like maybe 30lbs all together. they are so light in fact that when I picked the box up at the dealership I made them open the box to make sure they were in the box. The cardboard box weighed as much as the steps.

These payloads vary not only between MYs, but within same MY. My '16 Tradesman PW has a payload of 1306 lbs and a max tow of 10, 296 lbs.

Honestly I think that’s wrong, somewhere a button got crossed and yours is pulling capacities for your truck before the PW package was factored in. There’s no way in hell that a PW suspension can hold 3,100 lbs of weight and stay level. It just can’t.

did it come with a winch, front and rear lockers and sb disconnect? if so you have a one of a kind PW. I would love to know what the tags on your coils say?
