IF you are using a "canned tune" and of course if you swap out your PCM than you shouldn't have a problem remarrying your tuner after an update from the dealership . The Diablo tune writes to the new factory backup, just like it did the first time you married them.
Remember when you first hooked your tuner to your truck and it needed a CALID update and then you were running back and forth from the truck to your laptop? Its pretty much the same thing.
If you run a custom tune and put your truck back to stock, you will need to send your CMR tuner your new factory backup. As I recall the last letter of the CALID changes, E.G. AF becomes AG. Therefore the CMR tune will not match your Factory tune and NO you cannot just change your filename.

The importance of the factory updates has ben discussed above I' ll just add that you can find out what the updates are via the web and see if you want to go to the trouble. As time goes on there are less and less updates, as you would expect.
I try to never go to the dealer for anything other than select parts.
Something else to consider are recalls and configuration changes: want to add a brake controller....you should put it back to stock, etc.
recalls....My 08 charger needs the clockspring thing, the airbags and the key done. I got rear ended last fall and now I need the gas tank replaced as if I top it off the car stumbles stalls and pukes for the next 20 miles, which Dodge MAY cover, but I cant take my car in there cause It is heavily modified and wont run on the factory tune.
I can probably use the one mod friendly dealer ship I know, and maybe get them all done in one day......but that will take a lot of effort.
SO if you are going to go with a cam, long tunes, FI etc. that is something to consider

Yeah the flash they did was some update and when i went to reinstall the tune the trinity had to revert it back to the previous version because it did not know the update... its cool Sean fixed it and as mentioned ill just stay away from dealer as the oil change takes to long anyway. I only take it to keep the history up but honestly I'm past the point of resale value with the amount of mods i have and will be adding.

The only time your truck should see the scammers at the stealership is for warrenty work.

Even then I rather fix it myself if the parts are cheap.

A car/truck coming in for service that's still under warranty will always get a flash or update regardless. It's required since some updates or flashes fix issues, like the trans tune updates on the 6 speeds. Also, the dealer isn't thinking, "Oh I wonder if this person has a tune or not?" They are thinking they are going to do whatever the car/truck needs at that time to prevent issues and that person coming back for something they should have handled to begin with. Just revert back to stock before going and be done, in my opinion. You could tell them not to flash if you'd like as well but I believe that'll only pose issues if something pops up

Guess it depends on the dealer. A lot of dealers plug in specifically to check for tunes or overwrites, they just won't tell you that, as friends of mine that work at ships have told me. Once you're blacklisted then there's no going back and they void your warranty. The posts above that have both running a tune and still under warranty crack me up, unless you're talking still under warranty for interior pieces or certain electronics. The entire drivetrain goes up on smoke once you reprogram.

If I put the PCM back with the factory tune, would they able to tell that I use otherwise a non factory tune?

I know of 3 dealerships that have replaced transmissions for customers with nitrous and superchargers installed. Dallas Dodge has their own performance shop in the service dept that even sells nitrous right there at the dealership. Sounds like you just need to find a new dealership.

Most likely yes, I've personally seen it happen on a truck that had a injection pump grenade with less than 10k miles get denied and it had been put back to stock.

I've also heard of dealerships that are not very strict about it too but it is definitely not the norm. Sometimes finding a new dealership consists of driving more than an hour away. That's not a reasonable answer.

It's not a reasonable answer only if you got money to burn or if you do all your work yourself. For those who's repairs might be quite costly it might be a really good idea to shop dealerships to find a mod friendly dealer----even if they were way way far away--or even a whole hour away. Of course we're from Texas where an hour away isn't very far. :happy107:
