So I did the Trailer Brake controller install and used alpha obd settings to program. Checked all four settings again and they all set to the correct values. Without a trailer the gain minus and plus show up on evic and when I hit the brake pedal with the trailer screen on the evic. The gain goes up and down with the brake pressure applied.

But for some reason when I manually try ajusting the sliders by themselves without a trailer connected. A red screen pops up with the message Service Trailer Brake System and goes away after letting go of the sliders.
I did not see no faults or codes in alpha obd, no messages in evic, was told by infotainment that’s normal since no trailer.
Not sure if thats correct so Im asking on here.
I’ve seen videos on YouTube of individuals just using the sliders to show the gain with no trailer installed and it shows the gain on evic. Just making sure I don’t have a faulty unit and I dont know anyone with a trailer to test. Just double checking to make sure if I go to use it in the future it will show up when it’s connected.

Is it normal for the trailer brake to display when braking, if there is no trailer attached?

Nope, unless you have it selected to display in the EVIC.

Is yours an OEM / dealer installed unit or aftermarket? I would say either the switch or the controller are kaput. You could also have a wiring / corrosion problem back at the trailer connector or the wiring connectors back there.

If aftermarket one is installed, get a an OEM unit, not the Chinesium hit or miss junk from Amazon. Mopars don't like aftermarket electronics.
