I was replacing my cv joint and I removed the upper ball joint from the knuckle. I noticed that when putting it back together the hole in the ball joint (for the pin) seems too low. So when I tighten down the nut the pin barely sits in any of the grooves in the nut. If I loosen the nut down a bit so the pin can actually lock it in, the ball joint has room to move up and down. Is that normal? I hope that makes sense. If Not I may be able to get a picture or something. Thanks for any help or information!

Totally normal, as long as the cotter pin is in there with the nut youll be fine. Im not sure why its designed like that but thats how 90% of the cars i work on everyday are

Doesn't seem right! I think that's part of the noise I hear over bumps. Why wouldn't it be tighter? Weird.
