You have any input on train horns, are there smaller versions. Tired of these little cars pulling out in front of me

Well that confirm what I suspected. Thanks. So the answer to your original question is you will be overweight most likely. Your tongue weight plus weight of the quads, plus weight of all passengers in the truck plus the weight of the wdh itself, the weight of all gear in the truck and truck bed, all come off that 2095 lbs.

My guess is even with wdh set properly, you will still be over your payload limit. I would not, and do not do that personally, but to each their own. Have I ever run a half ton truck over payload on a rare occurrence, yes but it was rare and not a reguar deal.

Lots of folks with 2500s pull large 5th wheels with them and disregard the payload limit and go by rear axle rating since 2500 and 3500 are the same on our trucks with the exception of the rear springs. 3500 uses leafs, so folks put airbags on the 2500 to compensate. I am not saying you should do this, but it's done.

There is lots of debate out there about exceeding payload ratings versus your state registered weight limit and legal ramifications if your caught overweight or get into an accident and injure someone, etc. Personally I stay within all weight limits. Axle, payload and state registered weight, but that's just me. Thats why specifically bought a gas powered 2500, so I know I have plenty of reserve capacity. I like more margin than most.

So do your homework and then make a decision. As Vern said get it weighed and adjust the wdh and see where your at, then go from there. Good luck.

https://catscale.com/cat-scale-apps/ This free app for your phone will tell you where the nearest Cat scale is and or where there is one en route to your destination with gps directions. Not to assume it weighs steer, drive, & trailer axles separately at the same time. Normally cost is like $13 and $2 per additional. Cheap IMO to make towing safe legal (with printed proof) and much more stress free.

Original questions; does TW count toward payload & will I hurt my truck. The answers were yes and more accurately & legalistically since also towing toward GVWR. And no it won't hurt your truck.

Next question was; Am I safe to load ATV & pull camper without endangering family. I told him how to set it up and to know concretely and in print via scale results. The safety stability thing is primarily determined by steer & drive weights and by tongue weight percentage. Thats just the physics of it. Then additionally or secondarily by CVW combined vehicle weight, GVW gross vehicle weight, and receiver weight vs its rated capacity. These are generally more confirmational. Yes you want to make sure they meet spec also but its like breathing comes before eating a balanced diet. The frustration to me on these forums is that people focus on a payload sticker when it should be GVWR at least with respects to towing, more importantly they should focus on steer & drive weights plus TW percentage first. I mean I get it that GVWR will typically be the first weight you exceed but there to in most cases you are useing a WDH and so TW is dynamic not static so estimating whether a trailer will take you over gvwr takes me a different path than useing a payload sticker.

If OP has already determined he is likely only close on GVWR & confidently within truck capability. Where in its just a matter of set up for both stability & safety also for legal or manufacturers warranty. To which he plans to do it the right way ie set his WDH and adjust his truck and trailer loading via scale results what value is there in still talking about and looking at a payload sticker? The payload sticker is meant to help determine things like how many 40 pounds bags of quick crete he can load in his bed. But even now if the light bulb goes on for a few readers tomorrow someone asks a similar question and a 1,000 parrots say whats the payload sticker say. You want to yell who cares.

To use a baseball analogy its like they are teaching a new little league batter and saying watch the .. first base man? You want to say no keep your eye on the ball.

Thanks for your knowledge and opinions

Will gather all pertinent information on everything you spoke about and make decision whether to move forward with loading atv’s. Going to explore scales and WDH first.

Thanks. Happy memorial day
