I'll be moving to Colorado after Christmas and I've lived in texas so i have no experience with snow so i have a few questions.
How much does it snow in Colorado?
Will my 2/4 drop give me any problems with the ammount of snow that Colorado gets?
Should i look into snow tires? If so what are some recommendations?
And lastly would it be in my best interest to look into a 4x4 or will the 2WD be fine?

Fort Carson. It is just south of Colorado Springs. I would assume they keep the roads on base fairly decent but idk about the rest of the area.

For sure invest in snow tires, your 22's will probably be crap!

I have a reg cab 4x4 and I usually just rock 2wd and I'm just fine in the Canadian prairies with the stock 20's. LSD defiantly helps!

My thoughts on this is after the $$ spent buying the truck, whats a couple bucks more for total control. I have a 4x4 but still bought a wheel/tire package from Tirerack. Dropped down to 18's and went a tad narrower, 265 70 18, Bridgestone Blizzack DM-V1 winter tires. Nothing but rave reviews on these tires. I hate winter, but these will keep me on the road!:favorites13:

Drop tire size and get snow tires as stated then add couple hundred lbs of sand bags and your truck will stick like glue.

I'm from Colorado Springs!!! I would invest in another car, sometimes it snows a lot there and it's usually cold so it turns into ice quickly, I don't think the drop is the issue but I wouldn't imagine having a RWD truck would be fun. I would rather you be safe than sorry man.

Granted I've never driven a 2wd truck in the snow I always had lifted jeep XJs lol

If its anything like Alberta, get snow tires for sure.

My old 77 chev RCSB was 2wd, back when I was 16 I didn't care as long as I had wheels. I never recall any major stucks or anything, but you had to be careful applying throttle. I was pushed more than once, lets say that.

I almost find the newer vehicles WORSE in 2wd (for whatever reason. Old memory probably), or because newer cars make SMOOTHER / MORE power it just feels that way.

My 11 ram is terrible in 2wd. But I drive too hard for 2wd to be any good in winter. If you go slow its ok, but why go slow when I have 4WD capabilities?

Leave slow to the corollas.

I agree on the Blizzaks, I've run them on my Subaru and my 12 3500 Crewcab. I live in N Idaho and we get over 100" of snow typically. Left my 5th wheel hitch in the bed of the 3500 last winter and it handled well in the snow (for a 3500 w 8' bed). Running Blizzaks again this winter on my new 14 1500 Express QC. Running the 17" tires (stock size) on Discount Tire MB TKO's.

I live in northern IL where we get a decent amount of snow and my R/T will be in storage all winter.

I'm sure winter tires and weight in the back will help, but I still see it being a pain in the butt to get traction.

Other than Blizzaks there are Toyo Observes that have been known to run out to 60k miles and then Nokian Nordmans which are the original makers of studless snow tire. Just to give you some brands to look at if you decide to go that route.

If its worth anything, my work truck just got Nokian Hakkapalleehihie or something long and Swedish sounding.

Theyre studded as well. BUT they were like 400 a tire...but work paid soooo.......

they seem to work pretty damn good however.

I would say keep these 3 ideas in mind. 1 treat yourself and get the 4wd. 2 keep the 2wd and get snow tires and weight with some sand or kitty litter they will help if you get stuck. 3 keep your truck park it when weather is ruff and buy a beater and slap some snow tires on it and just drive that when the weather isn't in agreance.

Back in high school when I had a 2wd I would just fill the bed with snow. Was a lot of work but it worked great, but it also melted when the snow was gone so you don't have to shovel it out lol

Who the hell tells someone to sell an R/T and buy a 4WD? LOL
Instead of buying tires, rims and weight, and then hoping not only YOU don't do something stupid and run into a curb or another driver but someone ELSE doesn't run into YOUR baby, buy a cheap winter beater. Another option.

We just picked up a cheap Mazda 3 with winters that is a blast to drive (as far as small cars go) so the truck can be a dedicated tow b*tch.

you can get by just fine without 4WD if you have LSD. as for tires i'd suggest a all season with a winter rating like the duratracs

There is a few threads on winter driving. Weight in the back olus snows and you should be fine. Position the weight atthe very rear of the bed near the tailgate.

Being from northwestern Indiana by Lake Michigan I see my fair share of snow, especially the heavy wet lake effect snow. I've always had a 4x4 for driving in the winter. I can say most years it being used, last year especially, we had a horrible winter. at one point a few years ago I did own two trucks, a 4x4 CTD 2500 ram and a 2wd 1500 hemi w/ 3.92 lsd. I had to drive the 2wd in the snow once while the CTD was down for a few days. Never again will I drive a 2wd in the snow if I don't have to. I had weight and some good tires on it but it was no comparison for 4x4. 4x4 wont make you invincible to snow and ice but it will make life easier for you. I have since sold both truck and now have a '14 1500 RC/SB express 4x4 hemi.

I would find a 4wd Ram and sell the R/T. But if you can't part with the R/T then get an older Jeep or 4x4 pick up to drive in the winter
