hey everyone
i have a 2021 ram 1500 - i was listening to the radio on the way to work this morning - then - out of nowhere - it stopped - no sound on any channel - i was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and what it might be ---innerweb says maybe a fuse in the engine bay, something with a tail light or the amp.--if i can figure it out without the dealer getting invovled that would/could be great

any help or direction would be greatly appreciated -

Sean

What type of radio do you have? Is the screen working and can you see your tuner and it adjusts stations? Did you try bypassing the amp to see if any sound comes out of a separate speaker? Did you check with a meter for input and output from amp to see if there is anything?

Please clarify if the entire radio went completely dead and did not return, or if it's not producing any sounds.

If completely dead, F44, a 20A fuse in the inside fuse box, below the steering wheel is for the radio fuse.

Is this fault consistent or intermittent?

Your avatar indicates a 2013. Please update if you have changed trucks or add the '21, if it's a second truck.
TIA

so it started working again this morning --this is a stock radio, i could change channels, am/fm, etc. screen ok - just no sound---was really weird - now just want to know so i can catch a problem before it becomes worse--thanks - i will have to change it is now 2021 quad 4x4

one initial fear was the amp - if water can/di get back there from 3rd brake light or satellite antenna?

thanks everyone

Mine will be unhappy every now and then. 8.4 screen. Usually the screen becomes unresponsive to touch, or sometimes you’ll change the radio station but get no sound. Most times the system will automatically restart and everything is fine. If not it will be fine when I restart the truck. This happens generally once in every 1-2 months.

If it kicks the bucket, there’s plenty of radios out there to replace it with.

It's a UConnect!
Unfortunate, but it's part of the ownership experience....

When it becomes a regular occurrence, look to a good aftermarket head unit (Crutchfield is an incredible one-stop-shop source for this) and you'll never have any issues again ;)

Also a good time to look consider a speaker upgrade, too - the sound quality and detail with better than stock speakers is night and day, especially if you listen to music a lot while driving, and enjoy hearing the detail and quality of the music being played.

thanks everyone -I will keep watching it to see how it behaves moving forward - always a concern with these more modern vehicles is electronics and if they are tied to anything else

I have a 2021 big horn. My system has done the exact same thing. The only way I got it working is disconnect the battery.

There's also a reset function you might try. Mine is holding down the two buttons (volume and station) for a few seconds and it reboots/restarts. The 8.4 Unconnect in my 2014 did eventually fail and was replaced after going dark on its own over and over. IIRC, there was an error message I had to catch a picture of to show the dealer for warranty.
