I have a Gen 4 RAM with 8.4 infotainment display. Kills me that it doesn’t have CarPlay.

For my own warranty protection, I am not planning to swap out the radio, but...

I haven’t seen anybody comment in the forum that when the radio is replaced with a high-end aftermarket, if if the new radio retains all its original functionality. I.e. Comfort controls, seat/steering heat, mirror, etc.

Seems like so much of the vehicle’s controls are in the OEM unit - it scares the hell out of me.

For a aftermarket radio, I had looked at Crutchfield and their technician worked online with me to get a set up together. The link was called Maestro, and it allowed me to keep the connection to all of the functions I needed. Try them out, they can tell you what is possible. In the end I swapped a 2019 UAS into my 2018 2500 and was pretty easy, for your 2015 you would need a cable that you can get from M2Mods, a vendor here. One thing I was not aware of is the 2019 and up non-classic are different, guess mine must be classic. Good luck.

I replaced my radio with a 2018 8.4 in my 2017 sport, only thing i had to buy was the new USB hub.

Would love some more details. If a factory swap is that easy - seems like it’d be the path of least resistance.

Where’d you buy, etc.

Why a new USB hub? In the center console?

Actually I bought the radio off here.
I wanted Android Auto in my 2017 1500. Everything was plug and play. It did take a few minutes for my seats and steering wheel to be recognized by the radio. Other than that it was easy.

If you upgrade to Carplay/AA you need a newer USB hub. Yes, in the center console. So you can utilize the CP/AA via USB.

I am very glad I upgraded and would don't again if I had to do it over.

Awesome, thanks.

One caveat - I have SiriusXM (lifetime subscription) and transferring that is a hassle.

Love the idea of staying OEM though - thanks!

The experience I had transfering my XM was not enjoyable either.

I also upgraded my speakers with Kenwood Exelons, they sound great. I highly suggest doing so.
