Radio switches to 'Aux in' when I put my arm on the center console lid.

Every so often when I rest my arm on the center console lid, my radio switches to Aux in. Most times it will switch back to radio on its own after a few seconds, other times it stays on Aux in. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm not pushing hard or anything, just resting my arm there while driving. It drives me nuts though, would love to fix it. I tried pulling the center console apart expecting to find some sort of lid switch but gave up. Any help would be appreciated.

I would say there is something “shorting out” in the usb/aux card in the center console when you put pressure on the lid. If you have the middle jump seat, take it apart all the way down to the actually circuit board (about 2”x2”), it’s really not hard at all. Maybe see if you can see anything that is broke, maybe snag a new one online just in case, or try and placing some foam on either side of the circuit board, even though the housing is all plastic. My guess is there is a circuit cracked somewhere and it’s shorting out when you put pressure on it.

This happened to a friend of mine and it turned out to be a loose wire in the centre console. Took them awhile to find it but eventually got it fixed

Don’t be afraid to take the jump seat apart, iirc, a couple screws under the rubber cup holder, separate the top from the bottom, pull the carpet out of the slot around the edge of the lower portion, and then that’ll give you access to the box with the connections. A couple screws to get to the circuit board inside if needed.

I don’t have a jump seat, it’s the full length center console.

Then I would say it’s a lose wire as what werdna1977 said. Has to be something simple like that.

Sorry to bring a dead post alive - has anyone found a solution? Other than ripping apart the center console?

As now, I am in the same boat - open the 2nd lid - my radio resets to AUX. Close it, it switches to SIRIUS. Once its closed, I can switch back.

I have the exact problem with my 2016 Ram. Did anyone figure this out yet?

I had the issue. When you flipped the lid it would switch to AUX. it was a loose wire that the dealer fixed when I bought this truck (it was used)

View media item 30756View media item 30755View media item 30754So I had this same issue and fixed it today. The problem is that the wire harness is so tight that when you open and close the center console the wires are being pinched. One of my wires was completely severed. That was an easy fix with a butt connector joining the 2 wire together again. It's not difficult to get to. In the top tray where the aux, usb, power, etc is, lift the rubber mat exposing 7 #10 torx screws. Remove those. There are another 5 #10 torx screws on the padded armrest. Remove those and set the armrest aside. From the backseat, remove the panel for the rear seat controls.......it just unsnaps from the bottom corners. There you will see the wire harness that gets pinched. Open up the harness to reveal pinched or broken wire. I removed the connector from it's mount to free up some cable so it would not be so tight. Used a butt connector to rejoin wires and electrical tape to seal up the job. Now that the cable is loose because I released the connector from it's mount it slides freely when opening and closing the center console and no longer pinching the wires. You could solder them back together if you don't want to use a butt connector.

Had this issue after Ram dealer replaced fried Uconnect, your post pointed me right to the issue!! Undid the taped bundle of wire at the hinge point and the green/blue and green/yellow wires were completely severed and the black hanging on by a strand or two. Spliced, soldered and shrink wrapped and reassembled console lid and good to go. Thank you @freelance for your write up!!!

Thank you so much for this post. I actually found it a couple of years ago, but never fixed the problem, I just worked around it. I finally broke into it today and found two wires cut completely through. Thanks again
