RADIO UPDATE

I have a 2021 1500 with Navigation. I was informed that the radio needed an update. So l took it in ans was informed that they couldn't perform the update and l would need a new radio. Has anyone run into this or does anyone have a solution?

Go to another dealer that is fishy, and it works just you want it updated . I believe you can do the update over the airwaves yourself. Call Ram customer service, and they will tell you what to do.

I didn't have any luck with my 2016 due to it no longer able to connect to this service (2G network for cell discontinued) but yours being a 2021 I would think would work..... LINK

I took my 2021 1500 to the dealer last year.. they made me pay 1/2 -- so I did it. Went bad again under warranty, and I JUST got back from them installing a brand new radio in the truck. 63k miles.

So, I had them pull up the service report (I bought it with 41k miles on it).. come to find out that this is the 4th, YES 4th!! radio this truck has had. There is a TSB out on these UConnect radios, but RAM wont recall them.

This is a joke. The radios are complete garbage...

Supposedly there is a Google or Sony radio that is a direct replacement for these UConnect (Panasonic) radios, but I can't confirm they work.

If you want a replacement radio, I would go to Crutchfield and see what they have. If there is anything available as a direct swap, they will have it. Their Tech support will walk you through it if needed.

The new Generation Uconnect 5 high are made by Harman, very good units, faster and more reliable. Upgrade is easier than you think and they work with either 8.4" screen and the bigger 12".

You just need 3 Items:

- A new Uconnect 5 Module, Part number 68504644. You can fin them in eBay, just do a search for that part number

- A new 12” screen (the old one is not compatible, the touch screen won’t work) I can supply Part numbers, There 4 different types, depending in the options of your truck, extra push buttons are required on the screen.

- A complete upgrade Harness kit (widely available in eBay for $100 or less)

- Some programming is needed, only if you are upgrading for a smaller 5” or 8.4” screen. (If you already have a Uconnect 4 12”, your truck is already programed for a 12” display)

BE CAREFUL WITH THESE PART# MODULES, 68598596 (only for 2025 RAM) 68527730 (Only for Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer) These modules run on the new CAN platform Atlantis, They won’t work in 2019-2024 RAM trucks.
