My truck is a big horn crew cab, it stickered at 51,000$. I got it for 35,200$ before downpayment because of all the dealer incentives they were running. The old 4,000$ premium for the ecodiesel doesn’t exist anymore and certainly won’t once Ford and Chevy push out their 1/2 tons with their 3.0L powerstroke and duramax next year.

I've asked this before of the ECO guys, had haven't had an answer. You stated how much you got your ECO for, if you were sitting down at the same time, same place looking for the 6 cyl, or the Hemi, what would have been your final price?

You need to know that before you can say the premium for eco doesn't exist. Who knows, maybe you would have been able to get the same packages in a Hemi for $32k and the 6 cyl for $30k.

Maybe it isn't as much as the $4k it once was, but we need actual walk away numbers for all three vehicles to determine if the premium really is gone.

Same dealership, same year, same color, same trim, same size, only difference is this is the V6 vs my Ecodiesel. So yeah, it’s like 2k less...

Prior to downpayment Yes, mine was listed at 35,221$ Internet price from a mark down of 51,000$. I’ll see if I can find a screenshot of it

So, this dealership is charging the same for the Hemi as the Eco? This dealership is NOTHING like mine, and my two dealers are 2 of the highest volume FCA dealers in the country (not with Rams, but Jeeps, and others). Here the Eco is still a premium, and on top of it it is $0.50 or more per gallon for diesel (it is actually >$1 over regular).

Yeah this dealership is the largest diesel dealer on the east coast, I’m from PA but bought from them because it was so much cheaper to get from them in NC vs anyone up in my area. For instance there’s a 2017 big horn eco used at my local dealer with 20,000 miles on it for the same price I paid brand new. Just gotta find the right deals from the right dealer. Yes it’s a 2 year old truck but with 30 miles on it at purchase, I’m fine with that.

Diesel is about 3.50$ a gal while 87 octane is about 3.17$ in my area for reference (just checked gas buddy) That changes regularly though, I’ve seen it swing so much in the last 4 years

Ya'll make good points about locations you live and dealer volume. I used Landers outside of Little Rock and they're pretty big. The diesel and the hemi were higher in price but only by 1-2 thousand. There's not high volume dealers in my city so the hemi and ecodiesel were 2-3 thousand higher here. This is the south and trucks in general are always at a premium in price and even more when you option up the powertrain. I always think it's funny when I go to visit relatives in Milwaukee or Chicago and trucks are cheaper. There just isn't the demand I guess.

gas is 2.73 and diesel is 3.10 here.

Only draw back to me on the diesel is all the emissions jacking up, had 4 different 6.7s all go down because of emissions, it seems like a constant thing with them.

If I had one it would be deleted.

Mine came with 100,000mile/60month Powertrain warranty. As soon as that’s up, I’m deleting it. I want to do it sooner, but the wife is sticking to the warranty :buttkick:

Ill answer your question the v6 big horn was not being discounted and was the about same price as a hemi 4x4 big horn with discounts. The hemi big horn was only 500 cheaper then the ecod laramie.

The premium is gone because:

I cant even get a v6 in a laramie, it woulda been special ordered.

And v6 big horn again are very rare and I would had to drive out of town to get it, and those dealerships would have like 1 on their lot (thats not fleet) - good luck trying to wheel and deal on that truck when the dealer only has 1 example of it.

Could you get a Laramie 4x4 crew cab 8spd with 2 extra laramie add on packages and remote start and parking sensors
for 33-35K?

I dont think dealers would let hemis go for that price, but the stop sale for 2017 and the introduction of the 2019 made the firesale happen this year.

Also I bought a 4th gen ram in 2015, I kinda know what the market price is for them, @ 33k for a brand new laramie is rifukndiculous. I coulda had a brand new express 4x4 for 31k in 2015. Times have definitely changed and the laramie truck is definitely worth the extra change.

Going by fuelly it kinda explains how rare the pentastar is in a full size truck.

The Hemis have 1483 people reporting on Fuelly.
The EcoD has 927 people reporting on Fuelly.
The Pentastar has 166 people reporting on Fuelly.

EcoD started at 5% of the build of ram 1500 then went to 10% then 20%

I wonder what the v6 sales/build percentage was vs all the others.

I agree, but then that cost $ and you lost your powertrain warranty, so it's a double edged sword. Plus there are states where you need to pass certain emissions testing where you would fail in a heartbeat. So if you live there deleting isn't even an option.

If the hemi is ruled out, drive them both and see what feels better.

2.97 89 octane 2.95 diesel that’s here where I’m at. I ran 87 this last few rounds. I refuse to pay more for gas than diesel

Luckily we're still sitting below 2.65 a gallon. I think diesel prices really depend on the refineries around you. Like E85... some folks get it cheap enough to offset the mpg drop and some of us don't. For us, gasoline is consistently cheaper, diesel and E85 just won't recoup the cost in added mpg.

Co-workers and friends of mine have various late model GM and Ford diesel 2500 sized pickups. Unless you need to pull 30ft toy haulers to crazy locations, or the truck needs to make money for you, I see zero point in the diesel for a light truck.

The problem with the ED is there is very little to compare it to at this point. Would I buy one? If I had money to burn absolutely! FWIW, I paid $22800 for the Ram in my sig with 12100mi on it. I got lucky IMO. What would a new ED cost, 2.5x that?

On the other hand, I absolutely love my 2017 Ram wiith the 3.6L. This is my average tank to tank with mixed driving and mostly just me in the truck. About 1/3 of the driving is short trips with 1 to 4 of my kids in with me.
