Just 2 days after successfully work out one issue, another rears its ugly head. 1997 Ram 2500 V8 5.9.
So yesterday, I noticed the pitman arm shaft seal was leaking a bit. So I went out and got some Lucas Oil powersteering stop leak as I didnt think the leak was bad enough to need seal replacement, and Im usually a pretty good judge of that.
So I topped off the fluid with the stop leak with the engine still warm, and I checked it with the "HOT" markings on the dipstick. It was right on the money full. It didnt take much to get it back to full.
Heres where I think something went wrong. The engine was warm, but not hot. Thats why the fluid level looked to be just short. When I checked it today, with engine actually hot, the level was overfilled. Not just overfilled, quite overfilled.
This morning, before I checked, it started right up with no noises or strange problems. I drove it about 20 miles before I had to step out with the truck idling, then I noticed the noise. It was not audible from the cab with the radio and heat going.
So, what, did I kill the pump or something? What else could this noise be? Its not an engine knock, its too...prominent to be that. Engine oil is fine. This is definitely a noise from something just outside the engine block.
Check it out. Ram WTF: http://youtu.be/0r5opUptc1k
EDIT: The click gets faster and slower with engine speed, however, volume remains the same. No loss in power steering, engine power, etc.
