Sorry Ramdriver what is an “air tag”
Tracking device affixed to ones vehicle in an inconspicuous location.

An AirTag is a device that helps you locate items like your keys, wallet, or backpack using the Find My app on your iPhone or iPad:

Features
How it worksUses Bluetooth to send location information to the Find My app, which shows your AirTag on a map
Precision FindingUses Ultra Wideband technology to lead you to your AirTag
Lost ModeAutomatically notifies you when your AirTag is detected by a device in the network
SharingiOS 17 lets you share your AirTag with up to five people
CompatibilityRequires an Apple ID and an iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 14.5 or later, or an iPad with iPadOS 14.5 or later
Here are some other things to know about AirTags:
    • They're rated IP67 for water and dust resistance, with a maximum depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes
    • They have a built-in speaker and a user-replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery
    • If your iPhone is running iOS 14.5 or later, you'll receive a notification if an AirTag is separated from you and moving with you
    • Android users can scan for an unknown AirTag nearby with the Tracker Detect app, but it only works when the app is open

An air tag is an apple location/tracking device that you can buy and stash in your truck.

If your vehicle gets stolen, you have the ability to locate and send the authorities to the location.

I used the term loosely for reference because what you buy to satisfy the insurance scam here in Canada isn't really an Apple air tag but something similar.

I believe they're using an Android equivalent.

You are able to buy and install your own tags to promote recovery of your vehicle, should it be stolen.

If you install your own, at least your insurance company won't be spying on your driving behavior.

I've read complaints here of the same scam in the US, forcing drivers to install tags.

I've also seen 2 or 3 complaints from the scam victims then being advised their insurance costs have hit the roof because the company doesn't like their driving habits.

I'm happy to have bypassed that scam, at least until November 2025.

so is this like the Club of old?

Pretty much but instead of a round key, this thing has a narrow crescent shaped key.

IIRC, the Le Club I have filed away somewhere was much more expensive in the '80s.

$25 Canadastan $ sounds like a good deal, even if it is made from cheap Eastern junk.

By me all the hiking or skiing parking lots are reporting break ins even when efforts were made to show there was nothing to steal. So now I have to decide what car or truck to take based on the availability of side windows.

Many decades ago, I owned beaters that I'd leave unlocked to save the door skins or windows from destruction.

I use to have " the Club", I think I gave it to one of the kids when they moved to the big city.
toon town. It would have matched my current truck quite nice. All I remember is they where not cheap.
My insurance rates have not gone up on the car or truck since new, but they have not gone down either. House insurance is silly though. Valuation sounds like its downtown Vancouver.

Back to the club, guy I knew said his worked great one night when some one jumped into his truck at a red light, a few years back.
The club was by his knee between the sets. He picked it up and brained the guy, who fell back out on the street. Never heard any more about it, as he drove away, the fellow still laying in the snow. No paper work is the way to go.
RamD. The son in law left his beater unlocked with a bad motor hoping some one would steal it so he could get a bit of insurance, but those boys aim higher I guess as no one ever took it.
