I posted this in DIY but this may be a better place. Does anyone know how to remove the rams head on the horn cover with out setting the air bag off?

I would like to know as well, I want to plasti dip it.. But I'm not feeling the "mask off the whole interior" thing.

It's the last shiny, blinding glare-maker left in my truck.

If anything you can remove the airbag and paint it outside the truck...

I'm just wanting to remove the rams head and replace it with a Punisher logo. I've got the center console in process of being recovered and that 1 little rams head is the only one left on my truck.

I've got some pretty fine picks, I think I can get a corner up to get some fishing line behind it.
I'm going to wait to get my new one in, maybe by then someone else will have some DIY tips.

You should be able to pull the fuse &/or relay for the airbag, or pull the whole -neg battery cable if you are worried about the airbag going off.

Break it? What do you mean break it off? It's not attached by 3m tape? Thanks for the advice!

It's riveted so that it stays attached to one side of the cover... so when the bag deploys the badge doesn't imprint itself into your forehead. Something to think about if you are replacing it with a metal piece.

Yeah….that'll leave a mark….LOL

FWIW, I don't think you can deploy the air bag by banging or prying on the steering wheel to get the badge off. It would need crash sensor to trip in order to deploy. Those are usually located up in the bumpers somewhere and use inertia of a crash to trip.

Usually there are numerous crash sensors, and a given number of them have to activate for the bag to go off.

Back when I was on the fire department as an extrication specialist, (long time ago) there were 7 sensors, and I believe 5 had to trip to activate the bag. I'm sure things have changed now.... that was back before everyone had the interwebz....

I dunno about you guys... but using a airbrush you can black it out with only having to tape up the middle part of the steering wheel... I did mine in about 10 mins that includes masking it off.... if your in VA I can hook ya up... or you can disconnect your battery wait about 2 mins... turn the key to make sure all juice is bled out...*to be safe* and pull it off
