Howdy, new RAM 1500 Tungsten owner. I have always used Apple Car Play Navigation. How does the Tom Tom Navigation compare to Apple?

I had a 2015 with RAM NAV, BACK then it was absolutely horrible. And to update, you had to BUY the update from RAM. Cannot help you on any of the new stuff. I have a low end 2019 (5th Gen) Biggyhorn, no fancy RAM stuff, I just Use Google maps, or maps through my I phone. A lot of PPL like Waze also. But since you have top of the World Tungsten, paying for updates may not be an issue.

But U got a newer RAM with the new Atlantic Electrical Architecture with RAM'S (sic) new interoperability. Who knows what they did on the 25's and beyond.

I prefer Waze, but you don't get turn by turn on the HUD and EVIC with it, like you do with Apple and Google Maps on CarPlay

Glad you chimed in, since I have a 19, have no idea on all the new Bling offered these days, like HUD etc.

I prefer Waze using Apple CarPlay over all others. With Waze I think you get much more for alerts, hazards, speed traps, accidents, alternative routes to avoid traffic, etc....just my opinion.

I am not sure of how good or bad Tom Tom is on the Rams. I will say where I live I keep an old school GPS in the truck, (the Ram I had didn't have on-board Nav so I used it a lot), because if I go 5 miles north, 8 miles south of me there is no cell coverage. Depending on the day I might be half way to KY or half way to AL. So none of the Cell based ones work for me. Yes I can download an area I think I might end up in, and if I do great, if not? I traveled most of the way from Yuma AZ to the Grand Canyon on an old school GPS because, the way I went, there was no cell coverage. I have on-board Nav in both my Fords (not sure who makes it) that I use, but that old school Grarmin is still in the center console, just in case.

Good point about the need for a cell signal when using Apple or Android based apps like Waze. There have been times when I am in the White Mountains of NH and Maine and there is no signal. During these times I do rely on the factory Nav as a back-up which has worked well.

You can download and save maps in Apple Maps to use offline to navigate with when there is no cell coverage. If you know a particular area is without coverage this solves that.

it worked great on my '19 laramie 1500 and now I have a '22 laramie 2500 and it works fine. in the last 25 years, all seemed to work fine for me. I have downloaded a free update for the one I have now but have yet to apply it. I usually turn off the annoying voice before I even leave the dealer during my initial set up of stuff.
