I'm dosing off reading CAI and muffler threads. :)

Here's that 6.1 Ram that Bouchillon built for a guy. 6.1 Hemi, stock converter, 545 trans, and 3.55 gear. I talked to them today about it. Obviously it's long gone. They said Dodge should have offered this as a package from the factory. Said it was lethal fast. Would roast all 4.

Anyway - here's the link.

That is a lot of money for something you can do to a 5.7L.. hell I'm willing to bet you can bore/stroke and slap on some machined heads or even 6.1L heads and make more HP and still spend less money than that conversion cost.

I'm curious on how they tuned it, did they use the dodge ram tuning or donor 6.1L tuning....

When I started adding up the cost of heads and cam, headers, gears, and stall - and then see these 6.1 take outs with computer on Ebay...and it's only because I have 2 other older cars with 6.1's in them that I started thinking....hmmmm what if. But I agree - I wonder if they used the ram computer or the computer that came with the car. Somebody tuned it. And that truck's around somewhere. I'm mesmerized by it.

If that 6.1 makes 470hp at the motor, that is about 350-360hp to the wheels. That is what these 4th gen 5.7 rams are making with just a tune, longtubes, intake, and throttle body. You wouldnt need gears, converter, heads, or a larger cam to outrun that 05 with a 6.1.

Nah a 6.1 is rated at 425 at the crank. Sure a tune would bump the 5.7 to 410 or so maybe more. I still like the 6.1. Bigger bore, better heads, oil squirters on the pistons, aluminum intake manifold, electric fans. It's absolutely problematic to do a 6.1 swap. No question about it. That's why I was considering the 6.1 or similar cam for the 5.7 as hack / patch. But you have convinced me not to do that.

I was attempting to use this example to show that one could run the 6.1 engine without all the stall and gears. But the mistake in that logic is that a 6.1 is a different engine. Designed and set up for that 6.1 cam. Slapping a 6.1 cam in a smaller 5.7, smaller bore, etc. requires it to be stalled up and geared to work correctly, run, and even be worth the effort.

20000 for the whole truck doesn't seem that terrible. I won't be buying it, but the truck alone is 13-15000.

Well, they sell the motor for 9K. So with installation. Your motor is worth more than your truck.. haha

The 6.1 with the NAG and controller is all over ebay for 6 grand. If only I had a better socket set.

A 6000 pound truck with 500 crank HP is anything but lethal fast. Quick, maybe, but not lethal fast.
