I've got just under 10,000 kms on my Ram now (like 6000 miles) and have tons of pitting all over my windshield. I don't tail people, and I don't drive a lot of gravel roads where it's dusty behind other cars. I'm surprised at how much i have compared to when I had my last Ram. They must have gone to a much cheaper windshield! Not impressed with that it for how much I paid for the truck..

That being said, are there any products I could use or something to help slow this down? I can't imagine what it'll look like this spring after a whole winter of salty and sandy roads!

Not sure if it would help but rain x acts like a barrier or you could wrap the whole thing in clear vinyl and that would stop anything, remove and replace as time goes on.

I have some sort of wax thing on it now, maybe that's making it worse? I don't have glass insurance lol

We have sand and cinders on our roads in the winter and the majority of the pits in my windshield come from them being kicked up from cars passing in the other lane and coming towards me on two lane roads. It also chips the paint on the front of the hood etc: Your car insurance will pay to have it replaced when the time comes because it becomes a safety concern when the sun hits the windshield just right I believe.

They have coatings for wheels, glass, and paint. i just ordered the trio from DP. Well worth it!

Detailer’s Glass Coating, glass sealant, rain repellent

Your wax on the windshield is probably not helping the pitting. It would make small pit show up on the wax film and not the windshield. I have been driving mine for 16000km's on some bad roads and had some stones hit etc and nothing yet. I've been using rainex since day 1, I don't knownif it really makes a difference or not.

That auto detailing spray stuff looks like WAYYY overpriced rainX.

I don't care what anyone says about a spray etc to protect the windshield it just won't work. A spray film (like rainX) will protect from rain and Ice/show as its basically an oily film that is rubbed on, creates a very thin oily barrier that will not allow stuff to stick. But Even Rain X has a life… 1 - 3 months depending on how often you clean your windows or use the wipers.

Ive seen wheel coatings… armor all has a version as well as Eagle products etc. Basically same principle, thin barrier like wax will protect from water/dirt etc.

ONLY thing I can see working as a PROTECTANT like Ive said before is a CLEAR VINYL WRAP on the windshield. THe thickness of the Vinyl could take direct hits from rocks and other stuff to prevent chipping etc. Then it can be peeled off and redone when needed. The Vinyl is stupid cheap now and Ive used to to protect headlights, bumpers, hoods, fenders etc.

Ive been going on detailing forums to try and protect my new truck best I can. Thousands are on there and they use the coatings and products and leave reviews so Im sure its a little better than rainx. I wouldnt have spent $100 bucks on these products without reading up on it first. Rain x is a silicone polymer. The DP is a ceramic coating which = protection. I havent applied it myself yet, but from what ive read some people get AT LEAST several months out of it and never use their wipers. And thats probably under the worst conditions. It would obviously depend on where u live and how much u drive.Rain x will not do that. I have been using rain x. I was hesitant to spend money on professional products cause some of them are very expensive , some are reasonably priced though. You just have to do a little reading and searching . Now I have an arsenal of products. My truck stays MUCH cleaner after rain and driving and it even feels more protected. I applied klasse sealant (german stuff)on my truck which is supposed to protect for a year. I said yeah right, till I applied it one day and went to drink a beer. Came back and it had dried hard as rock! Thats when I said , nice this is like another clear coat! The coating that comes with the trio i bought is one step above a sealant from what I have learned but much harder to remove. I am just going to go with the sealant and see how it goes this winter here in NY. I also applied a coat of collinite over the sealant which is considered one of the top waxes in the forums. Crazy thing is the amount of these products that is needed. Its next to nothing! Its not expensive and it looked great. There are actually products that are sold in stores like meguiars that are rated very well. i just bought some Turtle wax tire coating too from autozone that stays on and is very hard to remove. If you want to try it make sure its this stuff cause there are different ones:

As far as the glass coating, Im going to be applying it today or tomorrow. Im anxious to see how long it will last.
