A few observations from a Ford owner. MFG Engineers way of thinking.

Let me say this first. I am NOT BASHING NOR COMPLAINING. These are all my opinions nothing more or less. This is a few things I noticed from driving a Ford most of my life to now driving a Ram.

The first thing are the audio/radio controls on the back of the steering wheel, are great.
The controls for cruise and settings on the wheel are pretty much normal between the two.

The lane asset on the Ford has a vehicle with a green line on each side, it will turn red when out of the lane.
On the Ram it has a vehicle and turns yellow (I think), without showing which side you are over. I turn this off on my Fords and now on the Ram.
The engineer from Ram should look a the way Ford did it.

Cruise control
On the Ford when I turn it on, it will set the speed I am going as the set point. No other notifications until you turn it off.
On the Ram I have to hit another button to set the speed.
When setting the speed on the Ram your MPH goes away and a little screen pops up and says you selected cruise control on. Then after you go to set the speed it poos up another screen blocking your MPH to say set speed then switches to the speed you set. These screens ae in the way for about two to three seconds each with no real reason for them. Also if you get on the side of another car and hit the gas to get past them (so the jerk behind you on your tail can get by) it pops up another screen for two or three seconds saying Cruise control over rides by user, no real reason for this one either, I hit the gas I know I am overriding the cruise control.
The set speed takes over the screen with how many miles on the truck.

Advanced cruise. I hate it on both.
On the Ford it turns on with a single press of a switch, and stays on so when ever you turn on the cruise after that is is on. If you turn it off it stays off even when you use cruise control.
On the Ram I turn on cruise then hit the button to turn on advanced cruise. went to set a speed and it didn't set. Selected advanced again then a pop up says set speed (or something like that), so it seems to be two different systems completely.
Like I said I hate this type of system. On the Ford it would brake hard if it caught a truck in a curve the first few time I used it. They updated the software and well I still don't use it.
On the Ram I had it slam on the brakes when it caught a truck in the exit lane. I turned it off and won't use it again. The car behind me slammed on their brakes and said I wa number one when they went by.

Miles per gallon 19.5 hand calculated.
Very comfortable, cab was to small, we are used to a crew cab.
Pretty impressed with the get up and go.
Over all this little I6TT seems pretty good.

Just at 1400 miles on the clock so time will tell.

Simple solution to the car ahead on the exit ramp…. instead of turning CC off….simply apply accelerator to maintain the speed you desire …until that exiting-truck is out of the way…then release the accelerator and your Ram will resume your pre-selected speed. ;)

You are still suffering from Ford-bias. After awhile, if you’re willing to learn/manage the Ram system…you’ll realize how much better Ram is than Ford.
(I was a Ford-Only guy for decades…. but I’ve learned better now.) LOL

PS: I don’t need the red-lane or both-yellow lane indicators to realize the Ram has corrected Back to the proper direction and recognize I’ve been distracted. Staring at the instrument cluster…instead of outside the vehicle….is dangerous behavior.

EDIT: I began paying more attention to the Lane Indicators after this post…and ACTUALLY… Ram DOES show which-lane is being crowded …IF the LARGE Center-Display is observed instead of the small “lane-icon”.
The crowded-lane is displayed in Amber and the one not being offended remains White.

On the Ram for Lane Assist when you start to drift left or right out of the center of the lane the vehicle icon shifts left or right and torque input is applied by the system opposite of your drift to get you back to center via the steering wheel if you have it turned on.

Aw I didn't notice that, but I didn't use it long enough. Like I said I don't use it on my Ford either. Now I will have to play with it to see. Thanks

What is advanced cruise control? Is that something new for 2025 models or is that what you’re calling adaptive cruise control? Our 2020 Ram 1500 Limited has regular cruise control and adaptive cruise control. I like that I can choose between the two. I wish my Audi had that feature. All I have in that car is adaptive CC.

If I had realized the Auto cruise was going to slam on the brakes I would have hit the gas, but there was no warning. Learning is one thing but getting hit with a bunch of extra screens to tell me something I did seems well, over engineered.

I still own a F150 and won't be getting rid of it just yet. I am getting used to the Ram.

I don't use lane assist on my F150 either. I just figured I would see how the engineers designed it on this.

I look out the windshield I don't need the vehicle gadgets telling I am out of my lane, no da there is half a tire in they way. I have been driving for a few weeks now. Really I hate all the gadgets on any vehicle, it just makes drivers lazy.

I’ll tell you what will REALLY pizz you off over all the gadgetry…. Letting your computer-savvy son-in-law borrow your new truck…. Then, next time you drive it…you find he’s changed all the Options and Displays to something totally different than what you’ve become accustomed. :killer:

I made him change it BACK to what I had learned. LOL

I have learned one thing I’ll probably get irritated-over…. The WIFI/Uconnect… reports over the Internet your driving habits, your oil changes, your location, and all sorts of things without asking…. And it allows Ram to upgrade and/or change your software and engine-parameters over-the-air … I don’t like that invasion-of-privacy at all.

Yes I am talking about the adaptive cruise control. Ford calls it the same thing. I couldn't think of the correct name when I typed this out.

I kind of figured that. I just wasn’t sure if one of the changes for 2025 was some new cruise control tech LOL

Coming from a lifetime of driving Fords, I absolutely love the layout and functionality of the Ram. To me, everything feels much more intuitive and well placed. The interior quality feels a lot more refined than my Fords too.

My wife's Armada has lane assist and adaptive cruise and I absolutely HATE it. Our prev Expedition also had it. Both of them will automatically slow me down when a vehicle is coming up, which would be ok, but as soon as they move the cruise floors the pedal to get back up to my set speed as fast as possible. The major dig on the Armada and its whistles is that when you're backing up if it senses something behind you it will lock up the brakes. We were backing out of a parking space one day and I needed to get close to the vehicle behind me to turn out. It locked the brakes up so violently that we had to get out and make sure we didn't smash into a car. When we got out, we still had almost 2ft between us and the car.

Technology is great right up until it isn't.

On this Ram every time I back up I get beeps like there is something in the way, or someone is behind me. I look in the mirrors and at the camera and there is nothing to be seen. I have not had it stop me from backing up yet, just beeps. I will figure out what cause the beeps before to long, so I don't just ignore them.
I hate having any Beeps, but that is just me. I used to rent a lot of cars (traveled 240 days a year for 14 years until I retired). I would try to stay with Fords or Dodges, because I knew pretty much where everything was. I had received an upgrade to an Audi once. It had the blind spot mirrors that would light up a little red or yellow signal saying someone was on the side of you, the issue I had with it, was it also beeped to let me know. I was sitting in traffic on the Long Island Parkway, I was about to pull over find the beeper and yank it out of the car.

When your backing up; if the elevation between your rear bumper and the ground is decreasing the sensors will pick that up as an approaching obstacle. This may explain the beeping for no apparent reason. You have to be traveling at a high enough rate of speed for the auto brake system to engage. Sorry I can’t recall off the top of my head what that speed is though…….anybody??

My first experience was backing out my slightly down slopped driveway and had the brakes slam on as I approached the street. Took a while to figure out what was happening. Since then, I keep my bumper sensors turned off unless I’m in a tight parking spot. I find them to be too annoying to have on full time.

I have a very steep driveway and my backup sensors won't let me out of my driveway without slamming on the brakes. I just use the button to turn that function off when I'm backing out. Also the truck beeps when I'm backing up but I think that is my trash can that is next to the door. Overall I like the 2020 big horn

There is a setting, at least on 5th gens, for disabling the automatic braking. The beeping was easy to get used to.

As far as Audi's go, we own two 2023's (A4 Allroad and S5 Sportback). They both have blind spot monitoring but neither of them beep when active. They just flash an amber light on the mirror housing. But I would imagine there is a setting to enable and disable the beeping.

Adaptive cruise control...
The one thing I don't like about it on my '19 is that it doesn't maintain a "soft" distance with the vehicle in front of the truck. If they slow down, my truck applies the brakes to maintain an "exact" distance to them. If someone merges in front of me, the truck applies the brakes to maintain the "correct" distance. How about just letting off on the accelerator to slowly open the distance, if that doesn't work, then apply the brakes.
My Nissan is a lot more gentle in maintaining the "correct" distance (I call it the soft distance, not exact distance).

I will look for the auto braking to see if it off or not. The beeping just drives me nuts. If there is something behind me, if there is a car coming, if a moose farts. I hate beeps.

As for the Audi it was a rental so I didn't have it but a few days. I did try the sun roof and got Audi Connect what's your emergency. Never did figure out where the button was to open the sun roof. I guess it wasn't the one I figured it was(-;

I have learned to co-exist with most of the nanny controls on my 23. But the one really irritating one to me is when I’m on the outside of 2 lanes turning left at a light. As soon as I start to steer to the left it thinks I’m going to collide with the car next to me in the inside lane and loudly beeps out, startling the heck out of me until it figures t what’s going on and stops. It always catches me by surprise.

I haven't had that happen yet, but that would cause me to skip a heart beat also.
