Another issue with the rear sensors I discovered by accident…When your backing up; if the elevation between your rear bumper and the ground is decreasing the sensors will pick that up as an approaching obstacle. This may explain the beeping for no apparent reason. You have to be traveling at a high enough rate of speed for the auto brake system to engage. Sorry I can’t recall off the top of my head what that speed is though…….anybody??
My first experience was backing out my slightly down slopped driveway and had the brakes slam on as I approached the street. Took a while to figure out what was happening. Since then, I keep my bumper sensors turned off unless I’m in a tight parking spot. I find them to be too annoying to have on full time.
… The disappearing, optional “step” beneath the left rear bumper area…if inadvertently left deployed…. will give an erroneous warning that some passing vehicle or pedestrian is present.
