So I've been getting a rattle when going over bumps. It's driving me nuts trying to find the source. So yesterday I grabed the steering shaft and there seems to have a little wiggle to it. It seems to be loose where the shaft enters the cab. Is this normal?

You will feel a little bit of movement in the steering shaft but you shouldn't have any noises.

My first guess would be the point where the steering column shaft
u-joint attached to the intermediate shaft that continues down to the steering gear.

Also, check the u-joint where the intermediate shaft attaches to the steering gear.

If either of those joints are not loose then I would suspect something in the column is the culprit.

Check the easy stuff first and you may find the issue.

Is it a knock in the steering wheel when you go over rough roads especially at slower speeds? Mine has done it since day one, but since I moved about 18 months ago and the roads are better here, I barely even feel it. Mine also had an audible knock sound and it sounded like it was coming from the steering colum but inside the truck. It used to drive me nuts too.

My truck does this also. It almost sounds like when a strut goes bad on a car, but I know all most shocks are good. Ive even lifted the truck to make sure all hubs and steering are tight.

Yep same thing with my 2016 drives me out of my mind. Sounds like the wheel is going to come off when driving over any road with bumps in it. Asked the dealer about this issue and he said its normal. Maybe to him but not me a fifty six thousand dollar truck and you get clunking sounds from the steering wheel when going over any ruff surface while driving

Hi mantrucker2016,
We're sorry to hear about this. We can imagine how frustrating this may be. Please let us know if you plan to return to your dealer for further inspection of this concern and we'll be happy to provide you with assistance during that process.
